8GB of RAM is definitely possible. To achieve that amount, they would have to go with DDR3 (Very cheap, but bandwidth starved). So in order to compensate for the low bandwidth of DDR3, MS would have to include eDRAM; which would be somewhere around 32/64MB eDRAM.
So 8GB of DDR3 + 32/64MB eDRAM is what we should expect the next-gen Xbox to include.
Well said. You start to realize that SOME people don't care about exclusives and all they want to do is play with friends and have fun.
I'm not saying that MS should completely abandon exclusives, but obviously this will all come down to preference and how much fun you're going to get out of the system.
You obviously just read the title or you didn't understand the article.
For the record, Halo 2, 3, ODST, and Reach were all developed by Bungie. Not by another studio.
Indeed it did start out as an RTS. But when it's all said and done, how will people remember Halo? Definitely not as an RTS (I don't even think people know that it started as an RTS).
I don't blame Bungie. While it was Microsoft's IP, it was Bungie's heart and soul that was pumped into the franchise in the first place. To see their own product being made by another studio and on top of that putting it into another genre must be tough to grasp seeing as Halo has (and will forever) be known as an FPS title.
Nonetheless, Halo: Wars was an excellent title that I feel is a bit under-appreciated by the Halo community as well as the gaming community ...
I'm actually quite surprised by this piece of news. This being Microsoft's IP, you would think they would force 343i to support Kinect. Glad to know MS at least gave 343i the freedom to not use Kinect in Halo 4.
I'm pretty sure MS knows better than not to destroy their flagship title. ;P lol
Killzone? Really? I mean the game sure does look good. But I've played both extensively and in terms of multiplayer content there are only a few FPS games that really match Halo. It offers a WIDE variety of gametypes. Forge being one of the pieces that makes Halo so unique.
Ah well, to each his/her own.
Not exactly hating. I for one play my Xbox 360 everyday. But these are just some of the things MS could improve on. Most of the points made in the article are pretty good.
Uwe Boll sounds right. ;P
Unfortunately this game didn't really do well sales wise. On top of that, it was published by Sega and if you've been following the Bayonetta 2 exclusive drama, Sega dropped support of the IP. We may not see the light of day of another Alpha Protocol unless Obsidian finds another publisher.
@tentonsoftube
Yeah but here's the thing about your "facts", they're for UNCHARTED 2! Not TLOU (Unless you have been into the future then please, let me in that time machine). We have no idea how the game will play until we have it in our hands.
Wow. 1GB for the OS? That's a pretty big footprint. Nintendo must really be pushing for heavy multi-tasking. I'm going to assume maybe a fast & good web browser, HD Youtube videos, etc..

Wow! 343 really didn't settle when it came to the campaign. They went well ABOVE my expectations. Halo 4 looks to be the best looking Halo game if not one of the best looking games out there period.
There were so many great games that came out in 2007. We had BioShock, Halo 3, Uncharted, Mass Effect, etc... But man, COD4 was just a complete package. Not only was the multiplayer fun, but the campaign was just so well designed (I mean, who doesn't remember playing the ghillies mission for the first time?).
This was the definitive Call of Duty imo.
The fact that they also have partnered up with EA kind of unsettles me. We'll see how the game turns out once it's released. But judging by the recent pics, it just looks like another generic shooter.
I wish Insomniac's future the best.
Yes it is a shame that we have to pay for XBL. But it doesn't really bother me. I have been, and will continue to be an XBL gold member. It's a great service that has been there to give me my greatest and most fun moments with friends. If they could make online gaming free but still provide the option to pay for the optional gold services (apps and what-not), that would be a better option imo.
Still technically impressive. Would not expect anything less from Naughty Dog. :)
Since we're talking about the future of these consoles, I'd say that's a pretty weak assumption. Presently yes, MS doesn't have a big line-up compared to Sony and Nintendo. But I expect MS to reveal a lot more new IPs as the new generation gets closer.
2-3GB is a nice estimate. I suspect maybe 8GB of DDR3 (with maybe 32-64MB of eDRAM to accommodate the bandwidth. 32MB is quite right). OR 4GB of DDR4 (again with about 32MB of eDRAM).
2GB GDDR5 could be up there for next-gen consoles. Which would eliminate the need for eDRAM. I don't know. Next-gen specs are tricky. We're getting closer so it shouldn't be long now.
I'm so glad they brought back Valhalla! It was a great BTB map. So close to Halo 4! :D
