Printing a disc costs less than $1. Distribution and shelf-space for a disc costs a few more dollars. These associated costs can continue to be passed on to consumers.
Too bad it doesn't have any offline play... Ubisoft would have gotten at least the margin on the initial purchase price from me; now they get nothing.
Developers of these games don't actually want to provide an offline mode. Always-online functionality serves the secondary purpose of DRM.
It is 'Phil' phoenticized in Hiragana. I should have used Katakana, but was in a rush on my phone.
こにちはXBOXのふいるです... Gross 🤮 How disingenuous an appeal to Japanese culture when he's drooling over a possible "career move" to buy Nintendo.
Ubuntu Desktop is very stable and fully-featured. I would always use it if it weren't for a couple of critical Windows apps I need.
Did you play on PC or PS5?
I wondered who would catch that, LOL! Truth be told though: it was my gal who bought it because she's huge into traditional D&D and isn't as opposed to a digital/subscription lifestyle as me. I will still only buy a future physical release (Japanese or otherwise).
Fix all the ridiculous bugs and performance issues before diverting your attention to more content!!! Larian should be ashamed of themselves for releasing the game in its current state. Like CDPR (but maybe not to the same extent), they're all about the quick cash now; no fucking ethics to release a complete refined product. FFS---how were these issues not addressed in Early Access? My gf and I lose control of our character actions at some point every time we play! And then there'...
The Series S console exists to sell GamePass and to try to move the console market closer to a subscription-only business model.
Microsoft is not really interested in selling Series X consoles. Series X consoles cost a lot more to produce; and the low-price mass-adoption digital-only S better advances their long-term subscription-centric business plan.
Local multiplayer is a staple feature of Larian's recent RPGs on console. My gal and I loved paying the DOS games together, and so have many other couples and groups of friends.
No PS5 disc release --> pass (which pains me because I really enjoyed both D:OS games. Oh well---I vote with my wallet!)
Darth: I think you're absolutely right.
The problem here is GamePassers are trading short-term gratification for the soul of the industry. It is an oversimplification of the business dynamics to take advantage of GamePass on the premise that trillion-dollar market-cap companies can afford to take the loss. FFS, the REST OF THE INDUSTRY cannot---and MS's race-to-the-bottom is going to be the legacy of the second crash of our hobby if people don't wise up and start supporting content and their rights as consumers. To spell...
Absolutely agree! Do a limited pressing so that people have the option. I'd even pay a small premium since they may not achieve economy-of-scale for a few thousand copies. It's a win-win because there would also be no waste---no unsold copies.
How would you rate the game if Abby were heterosexual?
Loved DOS and DOS2, and was super excited about BG3 until I found out there won't be a physical disc release on PS5. I won't be buying it now. What a shame.
Fantastic system for the gamer, not the hardware elitist.
Phil did NOT mean that they are backtracking on their all-digital/streaming strategy. He simply meant that some of the plans/details of the hardware, accessories, or game releases have evolved since those slides were presented. Some SKUs may not even be released now.
