Don't underestimate a single hacker. I know a hacker who was approached by a company who wanted something done (I'll keep the nature of this confidential, since it's lucrative and legal; a gold mine), but the cheapest solution cost $250,000 and then $50,000 a year afterwards forever. Well this hacker was approached by the company and he was able to duplicate this $250,000 software using some open source tools and a few custom scripts. It was kind of a mess, but it was very reli...

Hackers are interested in improving software and hardware. Thus when OtherOS denied access to the GPU and SPU none of the true power of the PS3 was accessible. They tried to surpass these limitations, and OtherOS was taken away. OtherOS was never the "place to go for freedom" as some make it out to be, it was still very limited; basically a single core core processor and a little bit of memory barely sufficient to run the smallest operating systems.

Then Sony too...

It's clearly illegal to over serve alcohol.

Hacking is not clearly illegal (as case rulings are all over the place). In many cases hacking has been ruled legal. Thus the PS3 hacks are a legal activity which can lead to illegal activity. Similar to legally selling a gun which enabled illegal activity. If your within the law, your not responsible.

Versus over serving alcohol which is illegal activity leading to more illegal activity.

To...

They key is a number. The number enters the encryption algorithm and if transformed by the algorithm properly it "unlocks" the system. I've created encryption algorithms myself, and anyone interested should check out this great book on the subject http://www.cacr.math.uwater... .

Court cases on such matters come out all different ways; who knows what will happen. I'll just say that a...

I think you accurately surmise the maturity of many here by saying they would like to kill a man because their games have been semi-ruined.

I think most everyone here things "These hacks will allow me to run my own code on the PS3? Well, I don't know anything about that so I don't care."

However, some people do have the knowledge to write their own software and support the hackers.

I'd be interested to hear from someone who is both an accomplished programmer/hacker and who also supports Sony in this lawsuit. (It's funny how we treat this lawsuit like a sports game.)

Anything which facilitates illegal activities should itself be illegal. This includes PS3 hacks, guns, cars, and pick axes. I still haven't decided if writing utensils should be illegal - but they are very sharp...

1. Hacking isn't illegal (at least on the iPhone, the courts would have to decide about the PS3).
2. Piracy is illegal.
3. If there is a disagreement between legal consumer rights, and Sony's TOS; then legal consumer rights wins and Sonys TOS get thrown out.
4. If it were the case that anything goes in a TOS, then Sony should include a "I agree to never buy an XBox" clause in their TOS ASAP.

They go on and on about Red Dead Redemption which everyone has played and seen for themselves, yet when the mention MineCraft, which I'm sure many have never heard of, they give one short cryptic sentence. :(

I wanted to ask if anyone know how saves from GT5 Prolog will affect GT5 Proper?

As soon as a developer announces a game it will be duplicated in LBP before the first screen shot comes out.

I can afford them, but not time to play them.

This game looked interesting from the very first time I saw it advertised on Steam. I was really excited about it for awhile - and by "awhile" I mean about 20 seconds while I looked over the Steam page. I saw the draconian DRM, closed the page, haven't though about the game since.

I don't have time to play the games I already have. No game is so special that I will put up with your DRM schemes Ubisoft.
