Assassins creed 2 Pc. Those video cards are in the ballpark i quoted. Thus its clearly a console port. Am i claiming that this is a universal rule? Of course not, merely making a point that even very PC hardware can be a match for the consoles.

On PS3 It runs 1280 x 720 with texture blur QAA filter and 20-30 frames a second, with screen tearing. I know that it will run well with dated hardware like that on PC with equivalent settings...

I even know that y...

Its not a flawed premise. I didnt say ALL games have the minimum specs i stated, I said they are common minimum specs and you will find them on many, many titles. Many ported from console but some not.

Quoting one game at me hardly qualifies as a rebuttal, because the very nature of PC gaming means specs differ game to game and engine to engine. They are usually set by the developer. In fact quoting LOWER specs than what i wrote means that the game must be optimised fairly ...

Consoles ARE the lowest powered machines this this "Generation" now although PC does not run in generations. Minimum specs for most full retail games you will see are Geforce 7900/Radeon X1800. These are really common minimum specs. Why? They are basically the equivalent to the consoles.

Anything faster than that, i.e faster than the minimum stated specs is faster than the consoles. If you want to run a modern game at the very least you have something equivalent t...

Most noticeable thing is just 360 is marginally sharper on the textures. http://www.videogameszone.d... See it on the waistband of Tyson's shorts, or the everlast glove logo, or the other guys jacket zips etc. Pretty much exactly how the older Fight Night games are. You probably woul...

Agrees with deadlyfire. PC is the next gen platform right now. Im not waiting for PS4 to play a next gen battlefield, i'll play it on my PC as its already there.

I just spent some money on a new graphics card and its so freakin fast i just know i am gonna enjoy this year with all these DX11 titles.

It supports a selectable "4 x MSAA" mode. Problems as i said was that this is not fully adjustable...Its a strange old thing, compared to analytical AA or MSAA in other engines it typically blurs more of a texture. There are problems with the AA modes in metro 2033.

AAA only works in very high settings and 4 x MSAA crushes performance offering better edge smoothing than AAA but considerably poorer texture IQ. Cryengine 2 suffers no such problems, offering superb M...

Crysis won engine wise for me. Despite Metro's use of Direct X 11 it still used a poorly implemented type of anti aliasing. For your engine to be the best you simply cannot omit proper adjustable MSAA coupled with all the shading effects. They claimed that the engine supported MSAA but chose to only release it with AAA(analytical). The same technique used on the 360 version, its sub par compared to proper MSAA.

Still, didnt stop it from looking fantastic. The best bits ...

Get it looking as good as the consoles?

I think thats the wrong way round, Crytek have only ever been trying to get it looking as good as possible on console, knowing that it'll never look as good as even the original on present console hardware which is in the latter stages of its life. I think their stated aim was just to try and squeeze the consoles as best they could. I think they have done as well as they could with console hardware.

We know that...

Having vsync enabled means budgeting your engine for it. You'll have to render a fair bit faster than 30 frames to get 30 frames when synced to a display. I.e 34, 36 etc frames a second so you can afford to ditch some when they do not sync.

Developers push so hard on console they often end up with a game that struggles to meet that criteria so have a soft vsync. When the render speed drops below a set parameter say 25 frames a second its often the case vsync is momentar...

The hint in the article was that high end current hardware will be dealing with the game on maximum settings. This is pretty much what i expected and counted on. Crysis was built for future hardware, Cevat claims this is not.

The engine will have benefited greatly from optimisation for console hardware, to even fit all inside their 512mb of memory, 256mb video memory for PS3. This is a significant consideration- as Crysis on PC can use over 1100mb of video memory alone! The...

Maybe it'll still look horrible but if it looks horrible on PC with a bunch of advanced DX11 features what exactly is it going to look like on console?? Lol

Personally i think it'll look fine and bioware will have responded to this specific criticism. Certainly sounds like it.

It does look really fantastic on PC. DX11 title. Cant wait. Yum

Have to agree with the sentiment that these are poor ports. Add the fact that if you enable Vsync which of course you would EXPECT that in a PC game the default framerate caps to 30 frames. Frankly preposterous when any decent gaming PC will trounce these games and run 60 frames comfortably vsynced.

You can get around these problems but thats really the point isnt it? A good port would not HAVE these problems in the first place. Yes, they might be standard for consoles, but...

Yeah. 960 x 544 is one quarter the resolution of 1920 x 1080 which is what Wipeout on PS3 is designed for, although it does change dynamically on PS3 now and again. The game stays with a vertical res of 1080p but the horizontal resolution can change in increments from a minimum of 1280 x 1080 to full 1920 x 1080.

I would assume that the handheld version also runs at 30 frames a second rather than the full 60. It would basically just be a cut down PS3 version.

The DLC is certainly best enjoyed the way PS3 gamers will enjoy it- already integrated into the game so its just expands the experience from the start. Sometimes i feel tacking on DLC to play after you finish the story or most of the way through is worthless to me, its far better just filling out the main game as you go along.

However the DLC for Mass effect 2 has never worried me too much. The game by itself is just fantastic enough. Which is why i would plump for the PC v...

There are always games around that push hardware. Theres obvious stuff like Crysis, but then less obvious stuff like Metro and even Lost Planet 2 which looks beserk with everything on.

It would be nice to see more games use DX11 features and i think this is the year many bigger titles arrive with it. Deus ex HR for example uses tesselation hugely, increasing character geometry by a factor of TEN.

Old hardware will still be beating the consoles comfortably...

Good way to measure how much performance is being extracted can be to measure power consumption and temperature of the console. A demanding game that literally does not let the processors relax from maximum load will consume more power, and create more heat.

5494d ago 2 agree0 disagreeView comment

It looks fantastic but i can pretty much guarantee you now that you will need a monstrous uber machine to run it looking like that. I bet its horribly demanding.

FSX is just.....awfully optimised. It looks very poor considering how badly it runs. God help us all if this is anything like as bad, it'll be 4 years until anyone can actually run it properly
