is it possible that "vm" stands for "virtual memory" not "virtual machine"? That they are using that folder as a sort of paging file to account for extra memory the XMB will be using in-game? i can't imagine it would be a lot of extra memory, but that would solve the missing ram issue for the devs. just throwing it out there.

god, why is this even news?! we've known about the difficulties developers have had learning the ps3 since launch!! do we really need to keep this cyclical discussion going on and on? Developers are learning that lazy crap ports won't cut it and they need to take time out to optomize their code FOR ps3. Most of the major developers have said something like this recently, and it has always been followed with a "we took some time out and worked out the kinks, the game's identical now"...
they definitely played it reeeal cool during GDC. I thought it was strange not having a keynote. YUP, pretty much time to join the now. I bought a 42" 1080p set and the difference is astronomical! Even the ratio format (16:9 opposed to 4:3) is more, uh, ergonomic on your eyes. Looking at a wide format makes more sense to your brain, and gives you a real sense of peripheral vision. Even if you don't like the idea of spending $1000+ on a 1080p set, you owe it to yourself to buy an hdtv of at least 720p quality.
