While I agree open world games tend to have too much pointless filler, You and @richierich, are comparing apples to oranges. FF7 is largely linear. The world is "open" but the game is designed in such a way they expect you to go straight from A to B to C ect until the *very* end of the game. There just kinda aren't side stories that aren't directly relevant to the main plot, and even then there's only like 4 or 5.

A genuine open world game *cannot* h...

No, actually. I'm older than that. I was already in HS when no child left behind became a thing.

Also, lol, no? Maybe don't tell me how I feel about things. I play Dark Souls. In fact I beat Demons Souls, solo, blind, I didn't even have the internet at the time to summoning help and lookung up guides wasn't an option. I played DMC 1 and 3. I beat Bayonnetta on Ultimate Climax (or Infinite Climax or whatever.) I have and like plenty of hard games. Darksouls ...

I think you're mistaking the term fun for the term engaging. Which doesn't require fun. I have a lot of feelings playing Dark Souls, Fun isn't one of them. Papers Please gameplay is actually quite boring when you take it out of context. Visual Novels barely have anything that could be considered gameplay, they're almost exclusively narrative/emotional experiences.

No, it's not stupid to have a game be only/primarily be an emotional experience. That'...

Limiting games range of expression to "fun" is silly.

I wasn't having fun the overwhelming majority of the time I played FF10. Or Papers Please. Or This War of Mine, or Dark Souls. They're a tragedy, a kinda depressing commentary on government corrpution and capitalism, Also a tragedy (this time about the survivors in a city at war and all the horrible decisions they are likely to make to stay alive, and are deliberately designed to piss you off regularly...

No.

What I mean is: Do straight characters have to be subtle about their straightness? Or is the fact that they're openly flamboyantly straight horndogs allowed to be a thing they are? We both know the answer to that question.

Further, that's not a fair comparison. Being straight in 99.9999999999999999999% of cases does not significinatly alter your life experience. Nobody cares. In that same number of cases (at least in the US,) being gay *does...

I didn't say anything about FGC. I wasn't talking about FGC or EVO or fighting game trash talk.

Tolerance for people based on things they cannot change about themselves (skin color, sexuality, ect) is not the same as tolerance people using ignorance or bigotry as a justification to treat people like garbage for those things..

Yeah, uh, I don't want to assume you're concern trolling, but that's what it sounds like. Go take a look at all those blocked comments (and some of the not blocked ones) where people insist that being gay or trans is a disorder and it's sickening and shouldn't be encouraged.(with the implication being that it's like, say, schitzophrenia and the ideal solution is a cure.) Because LGBT people in gaming are consistently treated like that (Including Sonic Fox, it's not...

Kinda depends on the game we're talking about. AMD tends to rival or surpass performance in modern DX12 games when they haven't been deliberately sabotaged. (which is the reason things like Hairworks exist, it's a black box middle ware solution that exists for the *sole* purpose of destroying AMDs performance.) They odn't have anything that really competes with like the 1080 or 1080ti but thats a very small fraction of the market they don't necessarily need to have.

Unfortunately, the correct answer to that is "since the TOS for using the store explicitly states you aren't buying digital copies of games, you're purchasing a lisence, a lisence they have full control over and can revoke at any time for any reason. " which has been essentially the whole time any form of Digital Distribution has been around.

Right now? We don't know. there are a couple of possible reasons, and it oculd be a combination of them.

For 1, they can't garuntee your level of power. As a level 30 paladin they *know* you have abilities X Y and Z, and they know exactly what armor you have access too. But when you have to go out and actively hunt for your abilities, they can't know wether or not you've found them, so you taking a DPS role could be actively holding people back in group fin...

@Rainslacker

Good for you? I'll take the word of my friends over yours, thanks.

Also, shifting from 1 abusive studio that overworks you to a different abusive game studio that overowrks you, which btw has physically measurable negative health effects even when it's work that doesn't involve physical labor) isn't exactly a fix, because most of them pull this for weeks or months at a time.

I consider IT menial because I...

75% of americans live paycheck to paycheck and have no savings. No, people *cannot* just quit. They *don't* have much choice.

Who cares? It does not matter wether or not they're gamers. *No* consumer product is *ever* worth the health, relationships and general wellbeing of the people who make it. I don't have to be an avid nike wearer or an avid nestle choclate eater to say the ways in which the produce their producsts (out of countrie sweat shops and by buying cocoa from slave owners, respectively) are disgusting and outragous and nobody should buy any of their crap if they can avoid it.

You do more long term damage by buying it, because you enable rockstar (and every other dev who does this sort of thing) to keep doing it in perpituity, doing way, way more damage than if some of the specific devs who work there now got laid off because of poor sales.

You really think that someone who was vocally critical of the company they work for 1: gets to keep their job, and 2: ever gets any other job in the game industry ever again? Please. Rockstar "lifting the social media ban" doesn't actually mean they're letting their employees talk frankly about their working conditions and wether or not they're satisfied with them. Even if they're not fired immediatly because it'd be bad PR, guess who'll find themselves first...

Be a responsible capitalist. Don't buy games with buisness practices (be they consumer or developer facing) that you don't think should continue. That's how it's supposed to work.

Do you know how many qualified game devs I know who can't get jobs in the industry and end up working menial crap like IT? Are you aware that spending that huge amount of time working makes it near impossible to spend time trying to find another job? Are you aware that quitting so they have time to look for another job means they don't get unemployment and have to rely entirely on savings (which 75% of americans have precisely 0 dollars in savings and so have no way to support themsel...

Worse, they blatantly misrepresent things, Dismissing Fallout 1 and 2 as if they're simple point and click strategy games as if they don't (still) have some of the best world building and story telling in gaming period, while praising Fallout 3 (of all games) for being "hugely immersive" when it's only immersive if you're blind to the fact that it has the weakest world building and story in the whole series by a *huge* margin.

MS is hardly the studio killer EA is, but they're still a giant AAA publisher with a history of meddling and shady monitization schemes, and giant AAA publishers have a history of simply canning any game that isn't going to be a giant success. If true, it would likely mean Obsidians days of having the creative freedom to make their complex mid budget RPGs are done, and you can expect everything to be dumbed down to chase mass appeal because those types of RPGs don't sell AAA numbe...
