None of the voices are any different, nor is the engine. They can literally just port the old sound files with no need to in any way alter them or record anything that wasn't already recorded in english.

That depends entirely on the 2 engines (porting to and from) and what they're capable of. FF12, for example, could already render in 16:9. FFX did not, which means FF10 required engine changes or a whole new engine and all of the models would have to be altered to...

FFX/ X-2 HD is 2 full game *and* it's an older engine *and* it comes with fully english voiced content never released in the west *and* they had to cover the cost of porting it to 4 seperate systems, *and* it has cross save between all of the sony systems, *and* the PC port has most of the bells and whistles one would expect of a proper PC port.

Launched at 40 usd.

Forgive me for not thinking 1 game on 1 platform with less than half the content and l...

No, it's not, especially if the encounters and combat are well designed. It's exactly the same as in action games, poor encounter design leades to frequent repetition and spamming of strategy X, good encounter design doesn't. Persona 5 and Shadowrun Returns and Divinity: Original Sin and Shadow Hearts: From the new world all have very different turn based battle systems and are all very good at encounter design and avoiding excessive repetition, meanwhile Tales of Berseria is fair...

Even if you have a physical version of the game and are only playing single player you have to connect to the internet to validate it? If you change your computers hardware you have to connect to validate it? If the servers go down (because the company is dead or because of a power outage halfway across the world) you can't validate it and can't play? Hey remember that time Windows 10 stopped supporting Safedisk and Securom and rendered thousands of games unplayable unless you pirate ...

Just?!? It's an 11 year old game. $35 isn't "just."

Kinda going off on a tangent now, but DA:O is also proof positive that it's not the gambit system that made FF12 easy. FF12 is just easy. Have you ever tried to beat all of Dragon Age Orgins without directly controlling anyone during the fights (and without the like 2 specific invulnerable builds?) It's hard. Really, really hard. Even if I spend hours customizing the AI I still generally end up taking direct control of someone (usually a mage) and having to hold certain moves in reser...

This article is wrong about basically everything.
Halo 2 has private fan servers.
MvC2 physical copies still exsist and the game is easy to emulate.
Zelda can be emulated
If you already have Scott Pilgrim you can still play it, it can also be emulated.
Phantasy Star Online has private fan servers
There are still Afterburner arcade machines around, it wasn't removed from you system if you bought it, and it can also be emulated. <...

1: You don't have to use it. You can micromanage everything if you want.

2: It doesn't necessarily need to be applied to the main character (IE they could still make you physically control at least one character without AI)

3: Even if you do use it, it's not "for brain dead people." Even if you did just sit there are watch as your team does everything because you set up the AI well, it still means you have to undersand the mechanics ...

I got as far as "inherent bordom of turnbased systems" before I decided the authors opinion isn't worth considering.(I'm only half joking.)

That asside, people do know FF12 wasn't the first and isn't the only game with that kind of system right?

Also, one of the pillars of their argument is false. Even with an ai scripting system, the programmers *still* have to make AI that accounts for everything because otherwise they can'...

No? It's Montana, not Russia. There are 40 thousand black people in Montana. Granted that's a tiny fraction of the population, but it's not like you just never see black people in Montana.

Yes. People who tell you to "git gud" (usually as a joke) don't actually know what they're doing. That's how they beat the game to NG+++ and that's why they hang out in game specific forums.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a big fan of the dismissive trolling people do, but your this argument is still hilariously stupid.

Dark Souls also didn't start it, it just popularized it, but whatever.

I was responding to a post saying that FF12 is the greatest.

I didn't say that gambits are the greatest. I'll happily admit they're good, but they aren't perfect, and having to buy/unlock slots and targeting priorities is really aggravating.

He's a terrible character we have to suffer through for the entire game, so even if you're right it has no bearing on my point. That said, the game is the story of Vahn interacting with all t...

The worst part is that this version of Ivalice is really cool and there is actually the makings of a good story in there, it just got buried by tropy shounen nonsense that doesn't really fit the tone of the game. It isn't even good tropy shounen nonsense, if it was I might have liked it anyways.

The story starts interesting (except for the stuff about Vahn, the single worst protagonist in the series) and then devolves into hot garbage and while the gambit system is certainly flexible enough to be good they never really stretch the players use of it by having bosses with good mechanics.

So, I'm gonna have to disagree.

Other games, both before and after FF12, have things similar to the gambit system, while also having stories that don't su...

I can't do 4k/60 in most games. Best I usually get is 1440p/60 (or slightly above if the game supports arbitrary resolutions ). On a 4k screen, "fake" 4k/60 is still going to look better than real 1440p/60, especially as managing 1440p/60 almost invariably involves turning AA way down or off so the upscaling is more obvious. That's why.

I strongly disagree. GTA (at least 3 and 4) takes itself super seriously nearly all of the time, but the most interesting/fun things in the games happen when players ignore the tone that the game sets and does things like engage in prolonged police chases involving the hijacking of tanks and military helecopters and attempting to backflip cars off of roofs.

Saints Row (at least from 2 on) recognize the best elements of GTA are the silly or absurd aspects and instead focus ...

Uh, no. they said they're pressed to see the difference. Doesn't mean they can't. Even if they can't, doesn't mean I can't. Sorry hostile douchebag, but I can actually spot the softness. 100% of the time? No. In a high action scene where there isn't time to examine anything I can't spot it without pausing. In a slow scene (for example a conversation) or if I stop to look at something, I definiely can. It's most noticable on hard, straight lines (like doorwa...

Anything can be addictive, because a very large part of it is psychological. Food, sex, stealing, pain, exercise, anything that does or can be made to activate the reward centers of the brain and trigger the chemical reactions necessary to make it feel rewarding, thus creating the feedback loop necessary for addiction. Sure some things (gambling, food) are way more likely than others, but anything can be.

Name one example of that. A game where you're "forced" to play race or gender x just because it has to be politically correct and explain how that's the case. I'm also going to ask that you think real hard about your answer, because if I can replace a couple of nouns and apply it to all those games that "force" you to play as a white guy then it's not valid.
