I saw some screenshots of the DLC tracks and holy crap they look amazing. Donnington especially, though the writer is correct about Oulton looking its digital best

I saw a preview of this somewhere months ago and thought the idea was good. Glad they made a good stab of it

It's not quite 60 most of the time but it's not that noticeable that often. I think it's about the same level of performance as the demo but that was only a small portion of the game that doesn't push the engine as hard as other parts in the rest of the game.

But it is still very impressive. Looks superb in 4K HDR with the RT on.

It's a gorgeous-looking game on both systems but the 9th gen. systems look incredible in action.

On the other hand, Warzone gets a more talented team.

Really looking forward to trying out the adaptive trigger and haptics implementation.

Something new is important, to be fair.

But I can appreciate something new twists on old mechanics or themes. I think Ghost of Tsushima is a good example of making something fresh even if it doesn't do anything particularly new.

A lot of the general public will play and love Returnal once they know what to expect.

So I agree with you, I think it is a must-play.

To be fair, it was just one instance in the two demos

You need to work your proficiency and integrity up on each run but any path-opening abilities stay with you

100%

Sony deserve huge credit for taking a chance on something that might not be for everybody. It seems to have paid off though.

The disclaimer at the start seems to acknowledge that they were aware it could be a shock to some players.
Whether or not they implement a change or not is another matter.

But it is a superb game that opens these types of games up to a wide audience.

It does look like it will be a hit. It had a lot of positive press leading up to the end of the review embargo and I read that it had a lot of late pre-orders. Housemarque deserve their success.

I think a lot of people expect obvious reflections like we saw in Control UE and Spider-man MM whereas RE8 is going for immersion.

Both are great uses of RT BTW but I do love the depth in darkness here.

Edit: I think Control UE almost overdoes it with the reflections. Like walking around a hall of mirrors. I wouldn't like games to go this route all the time. I think it would be like 2006's bloom obsession.

This.
FTG games are always at least OK. Always interesting.
Apex Construct had its flaws but it was still really interesting and I loved it.

I loved how the ray-tracing is subtle and well-utilised. It is a gorgeous visual experience.

@Si-Fly the new generation of consoles is much closer in architecture to the last gen.

It's a different situation than going from PS3 to PS4, it doesn't take as much time, effort or resources to make a cross-gen title this time around.

Plus it's only six months into this gen.

It just shows how unbelievably well designed the PS4 Pro and OG PS4 were.

The PS4 Pro is already 4.5 years old and it runs the PS5 close.
