I think comments like the ones it makes really are offensive - in particular to the microscopic organisms that collect around undersea volcanic ducts.
The second and third scenes are rendered (thankfully.. cos if you pause the video on the outdoor rock section is an optical illusion like an enclosed tunnel of textures)
However, the real moneyshot is the shot with a few cars on the track and all are of at least, if not better quality that GTHD.
Polyphony have always had an amazing knack with lighting, the this is certainly no exception. The cars look real.

This game immediately sparks the imagination for me. Physics, creativity and fun. The silly-stupid interaction 4 player level building will bring no end of laughs (just as you finish your masterpiece, you look at your pals and they have an even more bizarre contraption for example).
Using Sixaxis simply to move your head while l/r analogue controls arms independently is refreshing too.

The Halo shot is in game engine (prob cut scene style)but not in game shot (as in during play).

I really hope that it looks that good but the reality is that this game will be impressive but still far from and far too early for the 'Next-gen defining' hype. I will be judging it purely from the PS3 perspective and progression.
I must admit that I am really beginning to enjoy the underdog status that the PS3 is obtaining as this status pushes and creates innovation and progress in the most unlikeliest and surprising of places.
