The problem with 1st person is that you do get really close to textures and although the textures really are not that fantastic (a deferred rendering shortfall apparently), the lighting and post effects make up for it in my opinion.
Gears is still king of textures and being 3rd person and having texture streaming coupled with small claustrophobic environments aids the ability to tactically focus and impress with lots of wow factor texture makeup where it counts. Brilliant stuf...
Obviously my 'attempt at' humour was lost ;(
I could not agree more iceman.
I have yearned for a good space RPG's for years and mostly (not always), I have been let down when I have come to play.
This game has started the fire once more (read excited). Its the freedom to explore, interacting with the story in your own way and with your own imagination that gets me going.
RPG's may seem boring to some but after really getting stuck into one, you feel there is a future in Videogames still as there is in books.
As for the ar...
Yep. A wet towel in the hands of a driver with no skill maybe. We have all seen the videos of the pro's playing and it is a fine art indeed.
GT's physics have always been pretty close in feel to the real thing and it has already been stated that this engine will allow better controlled slides (drift) too.
My christmas schedule is complete. GT5 Prologue :)
I am sure I have seen a wet towel on a console before though somewhere?.......nope.
Considering that most people commenting on HS review articles have simply taken the score as the benchmark, it's bizarre that this is condemned as a null review because it has no body.
People need to discuss the finer points of reviews from its content and not just look at the score for this to work.
If the positive side of the review turns you on then buy it. If the Negative ones are too much to bear then don't.
Anything more than this is just je...
Sounds like you should get an Xbox.

edit: maybe not :p
How ironic this is!
The cure always grows near the causes?
They were the first to bite into the PS2's capabilities and Polyphony now look like they have done the same with the PS3. Its really amazing!
Audio was amazing and really helped with the presentation. Good stuff.
The replays on Forza2 look better than the game (they always do) but still the cars look plastic and the lighting is all wrong. The framerate drops also but Forza 2 still holds for me as a simulator and does well as an overall package.
Same here. Well maybe not Wipeout.
The 4D part was explained in the article. (I agree, its a cheesy and crap explanation as it causes stuff like your comment)
Its simple (ready?) 3D + Time! meaning the textures (being procedural) can have their parameters changed over time to stress, damage or age the environment for example.
That was not the best part of what was being said as its the memory usage for textures is reduced by ashtonishing amounts.
What's funny is that no in car shot is going to look as good as the replay.
In-car has you looking at the arse of the car in front and is not really going to have the same impact as sitting trackside watching 16 cars fly by before panning over them and zooming in and none of it is pre-rendered so it's all 'in game' engine.
Either way, either view, its all running realtime and I think it's about time the PS3 started to stretch its legs and give owners somethin...
I have played Forza 2 for many many hours and love it but there is not even a remote chance that GT5's graphics could be considered 'slightly better', they are amazing in comparison. Polyphony's lighting and in scene believability have always been world class.
Forza handles really well and is an amazing achievement but the cars to me (even before seeing GT5) looked plastic and detached from the surroundings. This is not really a complaint, simply a comparison with reality.

First thing I noticed too. Much improved over the demo and makes the fights look more entertaining (read as smoother, more flowing, easier to follow) becuase of it.
Good news! More of this sort of thing would be nice too :)
New 'Brown eye of Judgement' game demos at Leipzig?
Looks amazing and expensive. Hope they do another timelapse video on Sony-Blog.
By Brian Hastings of Insomniac games. Yes he works for Sony so noone can trust him and obviously he can't understand the complexity of games design like the self confessed geniuses who frequent this site.
Coughs
"If you ever hear someone say "Blu-Ray isn't needed for this generation," rest assured they don't make games for a living. At Insomniac, we were filling up DVDs on the PS2, as were most of the developers in the industry. We compressed the...
I hope the developers ignore all the praise for this game and use the nagative comments when progressing with development instead.
Afterall, with such unrealistically harsh and negative comments taken on board, the devs will go on to exceed everyones expectations and counter such 'problems' by the time its released. Good news and well done to all then.
