If general western audiences cared more about playing eastern games and general eastern audiences cared more about playing western games then I reckon Nintendo would drop the region locks. Personally I feel if you HAVE to lock regions, do so for your online shop, not for physical games. I'm curious to know how much piracy the process even eliminates.

Hmm, stronger than current generation consoles, new controller with more inputs than previous consoles, social networking, reworked online infrastructure and some new games that you cannot play on the previous Nintendo console.
Seems next generation to me.

I think it's fair to say that Shinji Mikami knew what he was doing with RE4 though. The franchise was in desperate need of reinvention and Mikami directed a game that was so innovative, all the while still keeping the spirit of the franchise within it, that the public loved it.

This seems to be a trend. I read a rumor not long ago that CoD: Declassified for the Vita may not have the Zombies campaign in it. These gimped spin-offs are not helping the Vita at all, especially when they are released on the same exact day as their superior console brethren.

The funny thing about Mario is when folks like yourself gets sick of it, there's always another generation to pick it back up. In that regard, it won't really stop unless no one genuinely wants it anymore.
I think in the end, indie games will always be at home on the computer. Look at sites like Newgrounds.
