It's definitely a bummer. I enjoy earning achievements throughout games (though I don't usually go out of my way to get them all). However, I prefer the feature being used at the developers' discretion. Forcing something which is, at its core, needless onto developers is something I don't agree with.
It does have one. You just need to buy one. Of any size. At any price. In that regard, where's the problem?
Hopefully they'll make it more user friendly through an update. For now, this is kind of a bummer, though it is worth noting that they did almost exactly the same thing with the Wii's Gamecube compatibility.
@DaThreats
It's their service. Don't make a jackass out of yourself if you want to use it.
You mean pushing for wireless connectivity out of the box? Like they've been doing since the DS came out?
No, the Wii U will be fully backwards compatible with just about every game in the Wii library without any issues supposedly.
The 360 backwards compatibility progression was nothing short of abysmal. You would get very few games each month (mostly crap like Barbie and bad Sonic games) and it took an eternity to get to games like Psychonauts (which wound up having emulation errors). Oh, and they never bothered making Oddworld Stranger's Wrath forward compatible on the 360....
You could argue for the PS2 which was the weakest of its generation (not counting the Dreamcast, obviously).
Not me. My philosophy is if you're that anal about graphics you may as well get a PC rig and continuously upgrade the thing.
But the thing is I don't have a bug up my ass about a game looking like the next Gears of War or Skyrim.
Fanboys: They don't love their favorite console. They just hate yours.
The Elite wasn't available at launch. I'm pretty certain they're saying it's the first console to come with an HDMI cable at launch.

Oh, I'm sorry. I'm waiting for someone to find something needlessly negative about this.
It's all premature bullcrap. They did the same thing with the N64 controller, the Gamecube controller, the original DS, the Wii remote and now the Wii U gamepad.
It's frustrating to think that there are such close-minded fanboys out there who refuse to give this platform a fair shake because of their opinion of the Wii or whatever reason they refuse to try it.
Inb4 "fanboy irony" replies. At least I try out the crappy products I don't li...
@Getowned
Explain to me which device that doesn't cost nearly a fortune runs on exceptional battery life for that kind of game content?
The 3DS and the Vita have similar battery life. Those devices are meant to be taken on the go where charging them would be far more challenging. I have spare ports on every wall in my room. Charging the controller will hardly be an issue for me.
The PS3 controller does BUTTON inputs. In this day and age t...
The reason games were so difficult back in the day is because arcades were still very relevant to the market and those things were brutal as well. Arcades not really relevant to the industry (not nearly as much as they used to be anyway) and many non-gamers are now engaging in the gaming scene. It's only natural that games would become easier for the masses.
Oh of freaking course the only negative story on the Wii U, out of ALL of the news we received this week, gets the most buzz. Typical N4G community, you never fail to disappoint.
I guess then it's great I don't have to have it plugged into the console with a cable that's clearly far too small like the PS3.
I can't believe you didn't expect the battery life to be this short when the controller projects HD game content on the screen.
It's promising, but it doesn't use HDMI cables from what I was able to see. :(
Considering the Wii U has very little storage built in, I doubt installation is mandatory.
Definitely. Shantae is one of my favorite 2D platforming series. It's such a brilliant universe and each game thus far has been REALLY fun (at least to me of course).
@Jinkies
I remember Iwata addressed it. He felt that dictating the player to do things to earn accomplishments would detract the player from playing the game the way they wanted to. To an extent, I agree with that.
I think they should have introduced a system closer to Trophies or Achievements but kept it 100% optional for both the player and the developer.
Maybe they'll change it through an update as Game-Modo suggested, but who knows. F...
