I'm SO addicted to Rocket League but I almost view it as a guilty pleasure with all the crap (MTs, lootboxes, default crossplay, etc.)
I never touch that junk but it's so damn invasive and ridiculous (and the people who talk trading lootboxes in matches rather than play the game irritate to no end).

You're wrong. Rocket League IS crossplay by default and it sucks.
The option to turn it off is buried in a menu so the vast majority of players are in the standard crossplay matches with PC.
The only way I would tolerate crossplay is if it is reserved for private matches only.
Otherwise, IMO it will completely screw up competitive online MP.
Crossplay may be "consumer friendly", but...

It has nothing to do with "bidders".
It has to do with companies providing the most resources to the version with the highest install base. It's just good business. PS4 user base is nearing double that of the X1. So, for example, most companies will put about twice the number of testers on the PS4 team as the X1 team.

There have been few 3rd party AAA games that really had me excited, and then even fewer that held up to those expectations.
