I honestly don't care most of the time if a game is innovative or not so long as it's fun.

Innovation in games is great, and everyone loves new ideas, but in the midst of a field of games that release broken, awful, etc., I just want the games I buy to work and provide me entertainment after I get off work.

Don't we have to ask ourselves this a lot?

Tony Hawk was rushed out because Activision's license agreement is up soon (perhaps using the game as a way to gauge whether or not it would be profitable to renew the aforementioned license) or because of some upcoming event. We, unfortunately, see this all the time.

The consumer typically doesn't learn that the game is broken until after purchasing it (I realize some gamers use websites to find out if s...

I have a strong feeling this game is going to scare me into screaming like a Maiden of Golden Water.

I can't read or hear the phrase time vampire without thinking of the Onion.

"Sony Releases New Stupid Piece Of Shit That Doesn't Fucking Work"

That's about how I do it. My reviews typically have a line or two of, "If you're not a fan of JRPGs or turn based games, then you may want to give this a pass as it doesn't have enough to convert you" if I truly feel the game couldn't be enjoyed by most who don't like such a thing.

An example of that line would be when I reviewed Fairy Fencer F: If you don't like anime tropes, humor, etc., and turn based combat, don't get it. An example o...

Well, yeah, since the Mario franchise encompasses more genres than quite possibly any other franchise in the entirety of gaming.

You have 9 entries in the Super Mario Bros series since the late 80s (1, 2, 2 USA, 3, World, NSMB 1, Wii, 2 and U), multiple entries in the Yoshi series (World 2: Yoshi's Island, Yoshi's Story, Yoshi's Cookie, New Island, etc), the 8 entries in the Kart series, 10 Mario Party entries, 4 Paper Mario RPGs, 4 Mario & Luigi RPGs, 4-6 3D ...

"manuer breath"

.... Uh-huh. This article is heavily opinionated as well as poorly written. Many statements aren't even properly quantified, such as, "I may disagree with the move from a consumer standpoint" and then doesn't continue on with *why* there is any disagreement.

Is it because of the employee's breath, aforementioned? Is it because of Gamestop's previously shallow PC game offerings? Is it bad because he considers...

I wholeheartedly agree with this.

lol, same, but I grew up in the NES-SNES era, so I grew up with Secret of Mana, FFVI (well, III before I knew better), Super Mario RPG, Wild Arms, FFT, all of that goodness back when they came out and we rented the discs or cartridges from a local shop.

It's nice to see someone who isn't all doom and gloom about JRPGs. Not all of them are ridiculous fan service crap lately, and I just feel the need to give you props for mentioning Radiant Historia, Xenoblade Chronicle...

I enjoyed Xenoblade Chronicles quite a bit, as it had the same writer as Xenogears and Xenosaga, for what its worth. Depending on what you appreciated most about Xenogears, you may very well enjoy it too (then again, I'm a huge Xeno fan and Xenosaga Episode III has one of my favorite plots of all time).

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor has great storytelling as well as gameplay (though, the storytelling mileage may vary since the game lets you select what story bits you...

I take it you're not a fan of grid and turn-based roguelikes?

It looks like your run-of-the-mill roguelike with a fan service system. So people who enjoyed Izuna: The Unemployed Ninja, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, Etrian Mystery Dungeon, etc., should more than likely enjoy this. The gameplay of these kinds of games is less about being exhilarating and more about strategic tension, which isn't exactly something you can ascertain from a trailer.

So, I can't reply to your other comment, so I'm replying to this one so you get it, lol.

I wasn't really speaking on the Mario RPG titles, but you do have a point (I was talking more in line with the main Mario series, rather than spin offs, like the article was). Mario RPG took the typical Mario cliche and subverted it nicely, as everything began with Bowser capturing Peach, but after the amazing intro battle (blew my mind as a kid, to be honest), a brand new vil...

Well, the good news is that the storyline is never really a focus in the Mario games, so if Super Mario Brawler Bros would wind up becoming a thing I have no doubt in my mind the basic concept would be present of, "Bowser kidnaps or steals a thing, stop him from taking over the kingdom/world/galaxy/universe by taking the thing back."

I wouldn't mind if gaming went all digital, but the problem is with implementation.

Steam works great, as does Origin (they had refunds before Steam even did, so despite one's personal opinion on the service, they did actually do a few things very well), GOG, etc.. That's because there is competition on the PC platform and storage isn't an issue.

If I've learned anything by downloading console games, it's that proprietary storage devic...

Man, eventually I'm going to have to get a larger memory card for this thing as I only have a 4GB, and if I got anything I'd want to pick up a 32 or 64GB card. However, I refuse to spend over $60 (the price of a new game on other systems) on such a thing.

The retail price of a 32GB Vita memory card is $99 (looks like $62 on Amazon, though), while the retail price of a Sandisk Class 10 Micro SDHC card is $16.99 (which is $13 on Amazon right now).

I got...

This is probably true. I just replayed FFVII for the first time since I was 10 or 11 years old and I still greatly enjoyed it, which is amusing since I've played 250+ RPGs since that point in time of varying types.

A lot of what FFVII had is extremely primitive in terms of JRPGs today, and a *lot* of things could be improved to make the game less of a pain in the ass. Faster animations during combat? I'd like that. Option to press a button to skip magic/summon animati...

I know, but I absolutely love that game.

I mean, this is at least better than it being New 3DS only like Xenoblade, since this can at least reach a wider audience.

There are a fair number of 3DS games you can't even play with 3D on because it makes the frame rate drop through the floor (Senran Kagura Burst, Code of Princess, to name a couple), so this is better than the opposite end of the spectrum, as well.

This is the happy medium, it seems.

It sold 2 million on two separate platforms that had a much larger install base on the Wii U at the time of its release.

I mean, 760k on an install base of 7-8 million is actually quite a high penetration rate.

I don't even understand why you're being downvoted

People on this site don't like it when you buy a sequel and get its predecessor for the same price as a new game sequel by itself? What?
