They lost me with the season's pass. I didn't buy 3, and I have no interest in seeing what their greed machine will pump out this year.
I was thinking the exact same thing. Plus this gens BC was sort of half-assed on both machines, with lots of games that were not compatible, or only partially compatible. Nothing worse then playing half-way through a game and then not being able to finish it because the game was not truly compatible.
If they are not able to do BC right, I would rather they just skipped it completely.
I have also been avoiding games that do this season's pass BS. The plus side is that I now have the time to actually play the games I already own, but never got around to finishing. To be honest I suspect that this game will prove disappointing anyway. So Irrational can keep it and keep their season's pass.
Instead of politicians wasting tax dollars to point fingers at video games, how about we use them to actually teach parents how to be proper parents, perhaps they might take a few hours and sit down with their kids to see what the video game they just bought for their kids actually contains, instead of simply relying on the rating system.
I would totally vote for a system that required all perspective parents to take parenting classes and be licensed in order to prove they we...
I agree 100 percent with everything in this article. I would have added a few things, but overall this was spot on. It is only a shame that they didn't use 1 or 2 webpages to make these points, because using 8 webpages for a story this short is a sale out in itself.
It is probably not true, but if it was I suspect the following will happen:
1) Most Gamers will bitch and moan about it, then buy the console anyway.
2) A couple of gamers will threaten silly class action lawsuits, that are quickly forgotten when they buy the console anyway.
3) A few gamers will write a petition, get a lot of signatures, until everyone goes out and buys the console anyway.
4) And some gamers will spend time arguing loudly online with o...
This would be the generation that I found myself replaying my last gen JRPGs more often then the current gen stuff, because many of the old games are simply more fun then the new ones, perhaps not as pretty, but I tend to enjoy them more. Currently replaying Suikoden V, and at 100+ gameplay hours it is 10x the game FFXIII is, and unlike FFXIII it is actually fun to play and not just mind-numbingly dull eye candy.
They are lucky they were simply sold and not shut down completely. Years ago IGN was a decent place for gaming news, but now they are just paid advertising posing as game reviews. I have not used their site in ages, so no big loss in my book.
I like Open World games, because it feels more real to me then games with invisible walls and a set path that you have to follow. However I also like a good story in my games, and often this is lacking in Open World.
For myself a perfect game would mesh brilliant storytelling with Open World, basically allowing you to take multiple paths and make multiple choices which would effect the outcome of an amazing epic story. I will admit that I don't think I have ever seen it...
I have been faithfully playing games since the release of the original Legend of Zelda, around 25 years, so I would consider myself a true gamer. However I would never consider myself qualified to speak for the masses. Different gamers feel differently about games.
A perfect example: gamers who use the word 'entitlement' as a war cry vs gamers (like me) who simply want value for the money they spend. Both sides love games, just one side has their lips firmly attach...
And now I remember why I moved out of California. Surely this guy must have more important things to do with his time. California slowly falls deeper and deeper into debt while politicians like Senator Leland Yee waste tax payer dollars to push for useless laws. Couldn't that tax payer money be better spent educating kids about respect for human life?
Even if video games were totally banned, it would not stop nutcases from buying guns and going on shooting sprees. And I...
Speaking of ads, I have noticed that I now get pop-ups when clicking on agree/disagree here at N4G. I hate pop-ups, but I really hate pop-ups that trigger when you click on something, because its sneaky and I hate sneaky advertising.
As for MS advertising, it doesn't bother me much currently, but I would rather not have in increase.
Apparently gaming companies are not investing enough in political campaigns, so they have become the scapegoat for bad parenting and weak gun control regulations. Sad.
As much as I don't understand it, apparently Lightning is very popular in Japan. This game was not made for FF fans, it was made for the Lightning fans.
Us FF fans simply need to look elsewhere for good JRPG. Sad, but true, and I don't expect it to get any better anytime soon. Personally when I need a FF fix I just open up my old school game collection and revisit Squares glory days.
@Knight_Crawler
True. When Sakaguchi walked away from SquareEnix he took the fun with him.
Versus = Duke Nukem of FF.
I am not holding my breath.
@JacKnife
Just because a lot of people buy something it does not make it good.
I don't think any of us doubt that SquareEnix is obviously making money with these pitifully shallow Lightning games, but that doesn't change the fact that they have destroyed the heart of the FF series in order to make a quick buck. It is a damn shame.
We don't want rehash, we want quality. We want a story we can sink our teeth into and characters that we actually care about. As opposed to pretty but boring characters in a pretty but boring story.
The fact that I still click on links about FF games, proves that I have not totally given up hope, but every time I read one I become more and more convinced that I am simply no longer SquareEnix's target audience. For their sake I hope they have enough Lightning fans ...
I have zero interest in this game. The only thing that could make me feel better about it would be to learn that Lighting pulls a Commander Shepard at the end of the game and ends up dead and buried. Sorry to those who actually like this series, but I just can't stand Lightning.
As for Versus, I don't really expect it to be any good either, sort of the Duke Nukem of the FF series is what I am expecting. Hope I am wrong.
Gamers need to be unified and ready to stand up for our beliefs, which means we need to be strong enough to say "Hey, I don't like your business practices, so even though I love this series I will not buy this game".
I wonder are we ready do this? If we aren't we really don't need to bother discussing it, let's just stand back and watch as microtransactions infect and ruin what little is left of the gamer experience.
Game develo...
