@tordavis,
Paid XBOX LIVE Gold subscriptions carry about a 25% attach rate. Even after the costs of advertising and running the service that's still good money, but the XBOX brand as a whole has lost more money since 2001 than it has gained.
Not only that, but video games is such small potatoes to Microsoft, that it really is relevant to question Microsoft's commitment to video gaming, overall.
MS investors will throw the XBOX One un...
@come_bom,
Since 2001,
The XBOX brand has lost more money than it has gained.
And now with the new gen cycle running again, at this time, with new R&D and production costs, it's losing money again.
Investors don't really like the XBOX brand that much, especially since, because they have to split that market, even if MS was to do really well, financial success would still be limited.
If the TV/Kinect thing ...
@MichaelLito79,
XBOX One GPU = 1.3 Teraflops
PS4 GPU = 1.8 Teraflops
PS4's GPU is approx 40% more powerful.
8GB of ESRAM?
Are you insane man?
That would cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $10,000.
I think you may need to rethink your theory, Mike134nl.
@JsonHenry,
tessellation is not exclusive to Direct X.
PS4 will be able to do tessellation as well.
I don't think Carmack has really liked any of the Playstations.
Actually.......
It's 3 GPUs.
Actually,
Sarcasm aside,
SD based games do look better on SDTVs vs an HDTV.
For example, My N64 and PS1 are still connected to an old 27 inch 1999 Panasonic with S-video because those games look blurry and more muddy on my HDTV.
@FateoftheGame.com ,
I was thinking about giving your podcast a shot while at work, but I need a direct mp3 link to make that happen on this very old mobile browser I'm using.
As a bit of podcasting advice, In the future, I might suggest making mp3 ( or mp4 for video ) a priority since practically any connected device, old or new, will be able to access.
I'll check back in a couple days.
@UnHoly_One,
Yes, we are more so talking about "partychat", and that too is being run through and/or set up with Microsoft's cloud service, which, again, is totally different from XBOX 360's PEER TO PEER party chat system.
Microsoft's AZURE servers weren't even originally built for XBOX 360 or XBOX One....... their both being bolted on top, so there's nothing implausible with party chat not working. In fact, it's more likely that it ...
Wii U is in alot of trouble.
@UnHoly_One,
I don't understand why you have a hard time understanding that running the majority of your online functions with PEER TO PEER ( XBOX 360 ) is vastly different from running it with dedicated servers ( AZURE ).
There was bound to be problems somewhere.
It's really not that hard to understand or believe....... not really.
No offence, UncleGermrod.....
But I think you are being awfully foolish to be buying an XBONE day 1, or even Month 1 when you know how failure prone XBOX 360s were.
@BBBirdistheWord,
Last time I checked it was the XBOX 360 that's in last place for the 7th gen home consoles.
In fact, no XBOX console has ever been better than 2nd....
Just Sayin.
@Belking,
While I admit that the facial tech with RYSE looked really good with that E3 demo, the actual gameplay looked like a proverbial turd to me.
It looked like a near onrails game.....like it was a KINECT 360 game that was repurposed to a controller.
And the not so funny part, is we alll know precisely why the gameplay looked like that.
@despair,
Why? What is it that takes place a year from now?
I mean, in a year or 2 from now, are games gonna get less and less demanding?
Sony doesn't own the damn internet.
Keep this going.
I'm not sure I'm following you, MMEHTA.
MASS EFFECT 1 is on the PS3.
@hankmoody
Actually, you'll be able to play PLANETSIDE 2 online without paying for PSN.
Also DC UNIVERSE and Warframe.
I'm sure there will be others.
AMD and NVIDIA are also compatible with OPEN GL/CL. Direct X isn't the only API available for tesselation an other features.
For that matter, consoles dont need APIs at all. Performance wise, It's actually better if they don't, and/or program as close to the metal as possible.
