it seems a lot of people think nintendo keep releasing these controllers because they are innovative... its not the reason.

its because sony and microsoft have total domination over the market, leaving nintendo no chance to compete with a 'traditional' console of their own.

what does that mean? it means nintendo has to create a niche of its own in order to make any sales. we see this in the shape of the wii controller and again the wiiu.

the wiiu is a complete failure- there is no success, it just sucks.

there is no single experience on the wiiu that wouldnt be possible without wiiu. and since nintendo went out of its way to produce a console based around a specific controller concept, that to me is a complete failure.

in other words, there is not one single game that warrants that stupid controller.

splatoon is the closest they got to a total marriage of game/wiiu interfac...

nintendo dont need to ditch the family friendly image, they just need to produce more varied titles.

they need to utilize their 2nd party studios such as monolith and retro to create games marketed towards a 'mature' audience.. we need more of these studios.

to be fair, nintendo only put this game BACK into production because what they were willing to release didnt satisfy the large majority of people who saw it, and those who played it.

Nintendo are forced to rely on gimmicks because they are no longer dominating the market like they used to.

Sony and Microsoft have practically the whole market to themselves,Nintendo can't compete at the same level so are forced to cater to the niche market. The only way they can try a steal some market share back is by offering something very different.

i also agree that the last few generations of consoles have incorporated all what is bad about pc gaming.

the main thing that separated consoles/pc in the past (in my view) was accessibility. consoles were plug and play, just put the cartridge/disc in and play. no worrying about specs, patches etc

we've come to the point now where console manufacturers are releasing new hardware merely for the sake of attracting the massive amount of sales a new console launch generates. rather than launching a new console when the technology has been completely exhausted and there is no way forward without new hardware.

it seems console manufacturers are pumping out new consoles merely for the sake of the huge sales new consoles generate, as oppose to giving us new technology when the old tech is obsolete and new tech is absolutely needed to move forward.

i am serious about owning a wiiu, its the only next gen console i have had any real interest in. but the price of the console has always been a problem for me. i dont think the wiiu represents good value, being (honestly) little more than last gen tech, with an overly expensive controller.

again, why would i pay current gen prices for a console that is technically last gen. ...

I will be happy if it's backwards compatible with the wiiu. I have wiiu games but I will really resent buying a wiiu at X1/PSS4 prices when the NX is almost here

im thinking that it will be backwards compatible because they could use the nx controllers screen to mimmick the wiiu controller functionality. and since it uses bluray sized discs, it could easily take wiiu discs too.

it seems almost deliberate that they are sticking with the two screen format, as if they have backwards compatibility in mind. i mean, if they wanted to go for a traditional core focused console, they could have scrapped the screened controller altogether, but ...
