It's still the supply lines?
Long legs?
UK doesn't count/isn't important?
It's only been 10 days of sales?
Help me I'm running out.
No. That story is a week old. I should know.
Who said it was a failure? Failures are relative anyway. And who is this "everyone?" Who really thinks the PSP is a failure and has said so in the past year? Anybody that matters or just dumb nintendo fanboys?
Definitely. Before the DSi, the PSP had just released the PSP3k, and had increased its lead to almost 600k for 2008. A few weeks later, the DSi is released, and Japan goes nutzo for the DS again, cutting the lead to 200k.
Go figure.
The recent study in question corrected their data and lowered it down to 63%:

(make sure and correct that both in the article and in the title please!)
No doubt, the coming Dissidia, Dragon Quest IX, and FFXIII will definitely help. On top of that, they'll be awesome.
This probably has something to do with:
1. The economy
2. Casuals not buying games when they don't have money.
3. Everybody knows that hardcore gamers continue to buy consoles even if they don't have money, which is why the PS3 and 360 are hurting less from last year.
But god damn it's awesome to see it getting so many games in the top 10. The PSP deserves it.
Great point, death, despite the many "disagrees" you'll surely get. The article mentions that this loss is due mostly in part to the number of releases, most likely based on a cycle of generations.
The next generation hasn't even begun for Square Enix yet. I would point to FFVII, FFX, FFXII, DQVII, and DQVIII as examples of how far into a generation (2 years or more for each) that it takes SE to get "warmed up."
Of course, that was back when Sony...
Would you rather have the most capable system with zero Square Enix awesome-ass games, or would you rather have the highest selling system with a single, lame-ass waggle game rip-off of an actually decent series?
Nintendo and Sony should both be pissed at Square Enix for how they've treated their consoles. And not to sound to pretentious, but as I was reading SE's financial guidance for 2008 (investor relations), they did note that:
1. They believe an intensely even ...
Complete agreement, but the point was the time-distance it takes to develop a game for a system as advanced and complex as the PS3. Perhaps the amount of time the 360 has been out in Japan has allowed for a couple games to be made?
Or maybe I'm holding out hope that Square has another ".....one more thing."
It could be one of those which-came-first paradoxes. I mean, would PS3 have sold better in Japan if Square Enix had released more titles, or would Square Enix have released more titles if the PS3 has sold more?
Neither, probably. The time it takes for SE to make a game would have been before they ever knew about Wii's success or PS3's challenges. A good example of this is The Last Remnant being made for the 360.
To be fair, isn't the point of a multinational corporate conglomerate to...SELL OUT?
I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin!
I agree but the significance is that the 360, which was selling 2k-5k for numerous consecutive weeks this year, has zero business being in the conversation with the PS3 or the Wii in Japan.
The past 6-8 weeks, it HAS been in the conversation. The point of the article is that it is more of an indictment of the ineptitude of PS3 rather than a validation of Microsoft strategy...
It's hard to say much about the PS3 that isn't already known:
1. Wow @ that price. "If it comes down it will suddenly sell like gangbusters."
2. Wait until... (insert big PS2 franchise here).
3. It's more than just a "toy." ("the Wii is just a kid's toy so it doesn't really count").
So beyond that the article does briefly note that PS3 sales have flat-lined, but doesn't go into that further because it has been disc...
...and guess who NeoGAF's source was?
That top 15 Wii games chart only has one game from a 3rd party. Read: only one game from a 3rd party has sold more than 260k on the Wii!!
The typo Chart Get! made at #1 (350k instead of 305k) has been copied verbatim in this article (but has since been corrected at Chart Get!).
el33tonline needs to start crediting its sources.
Also, this article has already been added as an alternate source here:

I think he was commenting on the 360 game that sold 5 times more than the first PS3 game on the list.
Then again, celebrating 360 success in Japan is similar to cheering for the Special Olympics. You're really doing it to make yourself feel better, not them.
Yup. And the PSP2 will take even more of the Nintendo handheld pie!
The problem is that Sony never had to rely on first-party sales to move hardware in the PS1 and PS2 eras. That's why this continuing story is important, and that's why all gamers -- regardless of fanboyhood -- should care.
Sony's ability to generate hits internally has always been an issue, but never so stark as it is when it isn't the #1 selling console. When Nintendo is turning out shiz like Wii Music, it's just a disgusting development and we should all be afraid.
