I don't think you understand what news is. If you don't want to hear about a PS3 game doing well, you can't just say something is old and try to bury it.
C'mon people. Media Create is always one week late for the last week of the year. We'll get another one in a couple days.
This top 10 has looked the exact same since FIFA and CODWW launched, hasn't it? Or are you just not getting any games?
Looks like it didn't quite cut the mustard for the top 40.
This seems like a realistic expectation from a credible source.
Agreed. It's good to see it not slipping lower after a somewhat disappointing debut. Perhaps it will have legs and it will catch on by word of mouth?
Agreed. The PSP has made incredible inroads in the handheld industry and has made high-end handheld gaming a legitimate business, something the GameGear couldn't do.
It will be interesting to see exactly what Sony comes up with to combat the DS2, which is also surely coming.
You'd have to actually read the article to get the point, I think.
It is saying that the PSP was about to finish its first year selling more than the DS but the DS has sprinted back into first for 2008.
No question the PSP has gained ground against the DS this year, but all of those gains were washed away after the DSi launched.
Check out the YOY charts for clarity.
Corrected the OP.
And you're probably right. The thing to note here is that the GC in Japan wasn't the 3rd place system it was in the US. It sold a decent amount but, like the PS3, is an unquestionable disappointment in sales.
But Apple was able to make iPod a significant brand that could be revised multiple times. How many different iPods are there now? I'm not sure if Nintendo will be able to do the same with the Wii brand. But who knows? WiiHD is actually kinda catchy.
"Wii Nano"
Just imagine next-gen when the WiiHD comes out under $249. It will be madness.
Yeah I have a Wii too but Nintendo really won my heart over with the DS. The PSP is an amazing system but there's something magical about my DSL that I haven't felt since my SNES.
I wouldn't have a problem with Nintendo's casual focus if that meant they were still making hardcore games like Zelda, Mario, Metroid, Fire Emblem, and Smash Brothers.
Oh, damn. They've already made all those for the Wii? That kinda shoots a whole in that theory, doesn't it?
The blame lies at 3rd party's feet, not Nintendo, no matter how ridiculous the hardware or their casual offerings. MH3 and DQX might help a little.
This is sales data for all of Japan, last week, all platforms and software included. The lack of PSP or PS3 software in the top 10 is inferred.
1. All Nintendo Top 10
2. 7 titles have sold 500k or more.
3. 4 of those have sold 1 million or more.
4. 3rd party Wii game in first place.
*interesting*
No, not exactly, although I agree with your point. Attach Rate is an inconsistent statistic that favors consoles that sell less. Check out the attach rate of PS2 as an example.
It would be easier to back this comment up with even ONE example of a quality game being made for the Wii by 3rd parties.
Why yes, how casual gamers could burst the video games
Which would probably explain the date discrepancy too.
It's still not old; that's Famitsu data, this is Media Create data.
