That said, I think SFIV did as well as it could have expected to, and it sold well.
Demon Souls is surprising me a little bit honestly.
And regarding SO4, I think it will be #8 next week, around 23k something. Just guesses.
Capcom is reporting 3 million shipped. That's quite a bit!
That's a pretty bold statement.
@Xephyr
I would hesitate to say that winning isn't any competitor's goal, especially in business. Now, perhaps it isn't a REALISTIC goal, or one that they believe they'll reach.
But yeah, I agree. That's their first goal. Their first goal has to be to leverage support away from Sony (where they can fight them in the US on more even ground). They can do this by building a fanbase in Japan that would otherwise purchase a Sony product.
Clearly they HAVE bui...
ITS OVER 9000!
This is one of those "I don't care how long the train is as long as I got the caboose" things, isn't it?
I'm not sure it was even close.
In regards to generational command and the longevity of the medium, Nintendo doesn't appear to be beatable at the moment.
Then again, neither did Sony 3 years ago.
Selling better than both Soul Calibur IV and Virtua Fighter 5.
Wow @ PSP and PS3 taking over top 15.
1. More than all the people in North America (US:300M, CAN:40M, MEX:100M)
2. 500 million would be 4 Nintendo systems for every breathing person in Japan.
3. 70% of all people in Europe.
Isn't it weird that the PSP is selling so much software during a recession? I'm guessing it has entirely to do with the hardcore gamer audience who buys games regardless of the economy.
On the other hand, what's happening with the Wii? Looks like the audience has withdrawn. Any guesses why, kids?
This is something to be really proud of!
I'm not sure how much it would mean. PS3 needs to outsell the Wii for a sustained period of time, not 'a couple weeks.'
This is only the begin.
I know the economy is bad and all, but wow. Do you think this is because the main Wii audience in Japan (old people and younger kids) are less likely to purchase games during economic hardship than their hardcore counterparts?
I think it's possible. It will be interesting to watch software sales over the coming year to see if the worldwide recession hits the more casual systems harder than it does the hardcore systems.
Usually those games are either designed for multiple markets from the beginning, launched in other markets first, or skip Japan entirely.
In the case that they launch it first in Japan but it does poorly, they typically analyze what each market will accept and what it won't. See: the reason you don't see horse racing sims in the US.
That said, I'm not aware of many games that started in Japan, didn't sell well, were still localized in English, and then sold gang...
Cute retorts aside (like why you keep posting in threads you don't care about?), Japanese sales absolutely matter. Japan has 6 of the biggest publishing houses in the world, including Nintendo, Sony, Square Enix, Capcom, Konami, and Namco Bandai--and all of them built their reputation in their own backyard.
What the Japanese audience do and do not buy should absolutely matter to all gamers, because the precedent for launching games in Japan first from these publishers is withou...
It's 19th this week in Japan. :|
I know you said 'no fanboi' but I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not? There are no broken Wiis so eventually everybody will own one? wat?
Something I'm sure Sony is proud of, no doubt.
That said, the 360 has more than tripled its sales from this time last year. Unfortunately for Microsoft, 3 x 0 = 0. <-- j/k ;)
Please don't let console sales hurt your feelings. Everything is down.
Were you the one that said SO4 would be out of the top 10 next week?
I'm keepin track!
Btw, the data is from Media Create, not Famitsu. Media Create data was just released.
