@NaiNai
Maybe it's because I'm LTTP on GT4 (got it for Christmas), but I swear I'm reading your post in Roman Bellic's voice and it's hilarious.
"thees site iz eedioT!
wait 'till those b**ches in Jersey (America's armpit) start calling you for collections.
And you're right--the PS2 won't go away. Could that be hurting the PS3?
Did you see that PS3 has more games in the top 30 than the Wii?
Are now selling #1 in Japan.
This is sad.

No seriously. At the beginning of the generation Nintendo was selling the DS as a "third pillar," and many people expected the PSP to really take off.
What we didn't know then was the DS was the real successor to the Game Boy. When people figured it out, it went BLAMMO and started selling. It's honestly amazing that the PSP could take so large a piece of pie out of the market.
Remember, it's not pacman if PSP doesn't get more than 3...
I think I meant "spiritual successor of an financially-accessible device that appeals to both hardcore and mainstream consumers, and has final fantasy games, made by Sony."
Do you think the PSP2 can beat the DS2? If this data means anything, it means that, I think.
I'm gonna say something crazy, and you may or may not buy it. Thumbs up, thumbs down, here it is:
"The PSP is the true successor to the PS2."
OM NOM NOM NOM
It munches everything in its path and leaves swathes of disappointed hardcore gamers in its wake!
:(
you didn't now? When did you?
:(
Your post if full of logic and critical thinking. It is obvious that you put a lot of thought into your stance and I respect your conclusions. I think you could take this ability and run a business with it. Good luck!
That's a great question, although it's usually asked for the wrong reasons. (Sony still has the market majority, rite?)
The reason is for arbitrary generational delineations. I mean, if we're going to include the PS2, why not include the original Playstation? Or hell, the Super Nintendo? It sold for years (and years) into their respective next generations.
The truth is that we have to mark the beginning and end of generations somewhere. So while I see your point, the...
UR RIGHT! SONY HAS 100% OF THE SONY FAN MARKET IN JAPAN! BEAT THAT, MICROSOFT!!!
It's hard to say whose turf it is. I mean, can you really say it's Sony's turf after the Game Boy era? Can you really say it's Nintendo's turf after the Playstation era?
Does it matter whose turf it is? Isn't the lesson of this generation that Japan isn't anybody's "turf" but instead has to be continually earned and nurtured?
Interesting point. But are they even competing at this point? The PS360 have a completely different audience and they're not even trying to reach the Nintendo audience. Nintendo just captured the people that usually get whichever console is the most popular this time.
It might be marketing, or it might be the casual, low barrier to entry games, or it could be the low price. Or all three. Or hell, it could be all of those combined with a marketplace confused with multiple SKUs and...
Can you clarify what that means? I'm not sure whether I agree or not.
PS3 is in a completely respectable 2nd place in Japan. Final Fantasy XIII will not change that.
World wide numbers require a lot of guesswork. If you see any site that has WW numbers that isn't Edge or Gamasutra or the hardware companies themselves, they're making shiz up.
But, if all you want is some random guess:
Nintendo DS: WOW
Nintendo Wii: WOW Jr.
Sony PSP: Yeah RLY
XBOX 360: America, HELL YAH!
Sony PS2: Still hanging on
Sony PS3: :(
:(
you can really tell what good software will do for Sony systems. I mean, look at the PSP hitting 60 grand!
because 2 is only 1 more than 1?
;)
I don't think it can, but it's possible.
The PS3 is actually doing pretty well compared to last year at this time. Maybe it has found new momentum with successive impressive releases?
