It would certainly help solve both there 1st party development woes and Japanese appeal, But Sega would be worth quite a bit I would imagine, and may not see any advantage to it from their own point of view.

I could see that quietly pissing off both Nintendo and Sony to have a 3rd Japanese based console maker in the race, also taking out all the Sega developed games from the PS and Nintendo libraries to become "Dreamcast2 exclusives"

I just hope we see a better outing from Microsoft than we got at Gamescon. Now as for what I would like to see.
1) A price cut for both Arcade and Elite consoles
2) something from Rare dammit!
3) A release date and price for Natal, and some launch game details.
4) Halo Reach and Fable 3 footage.
I'm not making any predictions here, just a small wishlist.
Space combat/exploration could passably be done using Natal.
giving commands verbally, and making tactical decisions with your map, plotting courses and the like.
I would love to see a new RST IP built exclusively for Natal from the ground up.
I would also like to see one of those surgery simulators that you see on the Wii and DS. But focused more towards the Western audience, Again built specificity for Natal using its strengths.
But other than that I just want to see developers having a crack with it. Trying something.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot. Give me force powers.

I agree with most of what you have said here, except that the desire to control all territories is solely the aim of Microsoft.
I'm pretty sure that if Sony or Nintendo were in a position to do so they would in a heartbeat, as would Microsoft.

The only time I have to play is in the evenings, after the wee one's in bed and even then I feel like I should be spending time with my wife instead.
I would love to bring her in to my favorite pastime but she has no real interest aside from games like pac-man and beer tapper.

The Xbox brand has a good foothold in the US.
But as you say if the put the dollars into the EU market next gen that may be a better return on investment for them instead of banging their head against the wall in Japan.
Hell they could probably do it now, just before they release Natal and whatever the 360+ is.
A 2nd strong sales week for the PS3 Slim, however it sees a 44% drop off.

Nothing really, it's going to be the weeks and months ahead that will tell the story.
