You're right - Dolby Atmos is better... and doesn't require a headset.

There was so much research and detail in this comment that I think you deserve an honorary doctorate be issued for your research.

PC always gets new tech first, mostly due to PC gamers being willing to pay extra for things like more premium sound cards - it reaches consoles when it becomes more mainstream / affordable to mass produce at a reasonable MSRP.

But I'd agree, in reality, the audio is nothing new, we've had this for years on PC and console via tech like Sound Blaster, Dolby Atmos, Windows Sonic, etc.

If anything, the PS5 implementation is worse because it requires ...

Seems like the performance gap is starting to show up fairly regularly now, as expected - but earlier than expected.

Love this. I wish Konami would stop being so useless... so many good IP's wasted.

I would love a remake of the Crash games beyond the first 3 - sadly didn't get an opportunity to play them.

Also, Activision owns Sierra and therefore owns SWAT. SWAT 3/4 remake please.

@Darkborn Correct, but that's unlikely to yield any game exclusivity. Kadokawa still have to please the investors who represent the other 98.07% and exclusivity reduces revenue and profit, so it's unlikely the other 98% would think that's a great idea.

More likely this deal involves stuff in the anime space than games - especially with the recent acquisition of Crunchyroll.

Just because a game you like got a bad review doesn't mean we should just scrap review numbers. Yeesh.

It's sitting in the low 60's on Metacritic, so it's not like this is wildly off the mark or the only low review it has received.

1.93% doesn't create preferential treatment - if you think it does, you clearly don't understand humans or business. They still have to appease the investors who own the other 98% with good revenue, which would mean not making the games exclusive or nerfing one platform.

By that logic, where is our preferential treatment for Fortnite or Unreal Engine 4 on PS5? Tencent owns 40% of Epic and they don't even get preferential treatment...

1.93% is not how you 'lock in an inevitable future acquisition'. By that logic, Sony are about to buy Fortnite and Unreal Engine 4.

1837d ago 1 agree3 disagreeView comment

They also made games for Dreamcast, Gamecube, Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Windows, DS, Wii... in fact almost the same number of Xbox games as Playstation.

This equates to 1.93% of the company. This deal is not the reason you haven't seen any updates on Elden Ring.

1837d ago 3 agree7 disagreeView comment

The people here thinking Elden Ring is going to be exclusive, or Sony are going to acquire FromSoftware due to this move are pretty far off the mark. This deal gives 1.93% ownership to Sony (and another 1.93% to CyberAgent).

That is nothing, Sony acquired similar shares of Epic - I don't see Fortnite becoming a PlayStation exclusive or Sony acquiring Epic/UE4.

GOTY? Have you been smoking crack?

That’s already not true one month in with just Hitman 3 and The Medium being released. And then we still have Bowsers Fury, Halo, Horizon, RE Village, Ratchet, Psychonauts and much more coming out this year.

Sounds like a pretty open and shut case given they hired the same actor, same makeup artist and asked for the same clothing and makeup as the previous shots.

You don’t need it sure, but the same could be said about GPU’s - you can software render, it’s just incredibly slow.

The same applies to ML, you’re going to want at least dedicated ML cores to be a able to do it efficiently (the consoles CPU and GPU are already being maxed out by the game alone) - and even then some computations are just too complex to do on one device and require cloud compute w/ a GPU that has tensor cores (very expensive rate).

1838d ago 0 agree5 disagreeView comment

Indeed you could run ML on anything, but it would be incredibly slow and would take too many CPU/GPU resources away from the game itself. Things like DLSS only really became feasible because nvidia started adding dedicated ML tensor cores, something PS5 does not have an equivalent of - otherwise we would have a DLSS equivalent.

Adaptive enemy behavior is not the same as machine learning. Adaptive enemy behavior in Knack and Bloodborne adapts within a set range (set by the programmer), machine learning AI would constantly learn your behaviors, adapt and react appropriately.

Unlikely we ever see this on PS5 - PS5 doesn't even have ML hardware support. Maybe in a few years on a PS5 Pro?

This is one of the many research patents that companies file all the time and never execute upon.
