“Try putting some old DDR 4 1600 in your new PC with your 3090 and tell me how much it holds back the FPS of your games”
Irrelevant - even the slower RAM portion of XSX outstrips even the fastest DDR4 chips. Clearly not a bottleneck.
“And yet here we are and there is no definable difference in performance”
A whole 3 months into the generation? I forgot developers are known for maxing out a console and fully understanding the hardware in <= 90 ...
@Tacoboto: Didnt realize this game was coming to PS4/XB1... which just makes this even funnier. So the game design is held back by Series S, not the 2013 PS4 and XB1 that are horribly low spec...
but hey, their comments worked - it got their small studio/game to the front page of a gaming website.
@SullysCigar "I doubt the Series S will be around for the whole generation anyway. They discontinued the One X after a couple of years"
Lol, really? They discontinued the X at the end of the generation but still support it today, and 2013 Xbox One was supported for the entire generation despite being useless. I doubt Series S will be going anywhere.
Developers can't even release a PS4 / Xbox One game unless it works on every version of the c...
@ABizzel I didn't say the GPU has split RAM, I said the console does - it's effectively split into VRAM & System RAM, like a PC.
There's literally no console game using over 10GB of VRAM (heck, even a 3080 card has 10GB VRAM, albeit faster than both consoles). Console OS's take up 3.5-4.0GB of the RAM right away, so you're already down to about 12-12.5GB RAM, and you still need to store all of your non-graphics data in memory (e.g. the amount you see...
Silent Hill DLC appearing everywhere - where is our full game?
Me: An actual experienced developer, posts a bunch of technical information and explanations.
Razzer: IM A DEV & YOU STOLE FROM GHOSTBUSTERS!
Remind me who is bullshitting? :)
I guess it's time for some education, "Developer + CompSci + Electrical engineering masters degree VS internet fanboy commenters" style.
@utopiancat Nice, now let me explain to you:
VRAM is used for rendering.
System RAM is used for game logic data (e.g. where AI is, how much health do I have, etc).
Faster VRAM = better graphics performance. XSX has faster VRAM than PS5 has. Will gameplay benefit from faster syste...
@utopiancat So every gaming PC in existence doesn't have different GPU RAM and system RAM speeds? Right...
You can already tell this statement is incorrect because we HAVE games today that perform better, have more NPC's etc. on PS5 & XSX.
Also bigger developers seem to be doing fine supporting all consoles, so it just seems like this small dev is struggling.
Developers are used to having different memory speeds due to PC - and it makes sense to have faster video memory and slower system memory (like XSX has) rather than slower, but consistent memory (like PS5 has).
So now we only buy games from studios with professional corporate style names? And games that are PS5 only? I guess you won't be playing Horizon Forbidden West, Miles Morales or Sackboy etc then - those have unprofessional studio names and some are on other devices.
Sorry for your loss.
Sort of have to include Switch in the comparisons for next gen since it IS Nintendo’s competing product.
Xbox is doing fine, Microsoft just posted record revenue and made two Bethesda’s in profit too. You don’t have to sell the most consoles to be a success and I hate to break this to you but, Microsoft are doing much, much better than Sony as a corporation - and that is all that matters - you’re only as strong as your parent company.
But - why does it ma...
@utopiancat A quick look on eBay for PS5 disc and Xbox series X revealed that both are going for anywhere from $800 to $1200, so no.
Also, scalper prices are not how you determine market demand lol.
That statement makes no sense. If production is small (which it is, for both consoles), then that would suggest all consoles are selling out (they are), and therefore we cannot judge the true demand for a PS5 or Xbox or even Switch because you can only judge demand when supply is readily available.
Not that any of the sales figures / revenue matters to us anyway - unless you are a shareholder.
Not just PS5 - Xbox and Switch are a huge hit too and in crazy demand. Welcome to the pandemic where everyone is stuck at home!
RIP.
@iain04 There's just a huge shortage of all hardware right now (due to demand, scalpers, and covid). Go try buy any of the following:
- Xbox Series S/X
- Playstation 5
- Nvidia 3000 GPU
- AMD Ryzen 5 CPU
- AMD RDNA2 GPU
@DarkZane: AMD will produce for whichever company is willing to buy/pay - they don't care which one sells better at retail - doesn't impact them. Making less PS5/Xbox to make more of their ow...
I was not aware of this price gap, holy cow.
So how do you explain the PS5 also being impossible to find? Sony are curbing units too?
Seems like a weird strategy for two corporations who’s goal it is to make money.
"That looks like a 360 port"
Imagine a 360 game looking like a 360 game. I am shocked.
