You’re writing this when last week both HiFi and Forspoken came out.
One is AA and is great.
The other is AAA and woeful.
@Flavor I've had it since Thursday, and I'm a huge DS + survival horror fan so already done.
I might go back for a NG+ someday though, but not right off the back of the first playthrough.
Only a small handful of them - the ones which were never listed on the XBox One / Series store anyway.
And yes, the article is a duplicate. Same source, same topic, same list of games.
They've disabled it - what we'll actually see is a difference between HW VRS and no VRS. Which is equally as interesting.
Yeah... pretty brute force. But what else can they do? It's either support it in SW or disable it. Both have their negatives.
It'll be interesting to see the updated DF video. And agree, we might see a tweaked SW VRS implementation resurface in a later update.
It could indeed have a hit on performance, yes. VRS helps with performance by shading far away / harder to see surfaces at a lower rate.
This update disables that. If you want a 2-3 year throwback. this comes down to incomplete RDNA2 implementations again - PS5 does not feature hardware VRS.
PS5 was already dropping 10-15fps WITH VRS, so we'll have to see Digital Foundry's updated video to get a better idea of the impact (if any).
Yeah, going F2P probably helped drive a lot / most of those. But, we all know the Sims is a trap, they probably got in for free and then bought one of the 324239 DLC packs that cost like 15 bucks.
Lots of those games are tiny ones though or first party etc. The reality is, the majority of the 3rd party games that people care about, are multiplat, unless a platform holder locks it down. Heck, even GOTY 2022 is a cross-plat game.
So, name me all the big games that came to PS5 and not Xbox Series in 2022, which were the result of the developer deciding that "people don't buy games on Xbox'.
Obviously, you can leave out any PS Studios game...
Meanwhile, back in the real world, 99% of third party games come to PS and Xbox.
Also, Sony have been reporting decreasing third party game sales since 2019.
I wonder what your excuse will be if they report that trend is continuing in their earnings call this week.
Most of these games are still purchasable on the modern store - they also aren't leaving the back compat program.
So not a big deal really - at least they're still keeping the store itself, payments services and the overall online ecosystem up.
Yeah, there will definitely be exceptions for certain games w/ licensing etc.
I had a similar issue with Silent Hill - I wanted to play downpour (I know... glutton for punishment... but I wanted to play the entire series again) and it wasn't available digitally so I had to resort to ebaying a used copy.
That's good to know that you can buy and keep it though, so if there is something on the list we want that isn't on the 'new' Xbox sto...
The game is great, and the fact that Tango can go from horror games to this, at the complete other end of the spectrum, really shows their strengths as a developer.
While I'm surprised I'm even writing this, EA are doing a great job lately. Now get Battlefield back on track.
Also, give us a MOH remake.
I was more so just initially like "Oh crap, they're removing games from back compat" but then realized the wording and the marketplace being the old store etc. That part was initially confusing, but that might just be for me.
Now that you mentioned licensing though, I have even more questions... surely licensing also means they have to pull it from back compat and the 'modern' store? Or maybe those are fully separately negotiated licenses.
...
That sucks, but I'm all for quality delays. Don't rush the game and just make sure it lands on point. Huge expectations for this game.
@Korn Typically the platform with the biggest install base is the lead platform.
There’s of course no denying that the XSX is more powerful, but developer actions matter too.
