Yep, and if you want a replacement FPS there is none better and bigger than COD.

So, the Switch has officially claimed the scalp of the GameBoy and PS4. Crazy, and it seems on track to overtake the DS and PS2.

Pokemon selling ~21m in ~2 months is insane. Well done Nintendo.

In what way? PS2 sold ~160million and was mainstream. VR just isn't anywhere near that level of mainstream adoption.

I'm sure this'll age like fine milk. We should all totally expect a $500 console to outperform a 3090ti /s

@jznrpg Yes, because I’d rather they put the resources into making another blockbuster mainline GTA game that will sell another 175m copies.

Right now it’s only available on PC, PS and Xbox. They’ve committed to bringing it to Switch after the acquisition closes.

It won’t be free but it will be in GamePass - so that’s a big win for gamers and a welcome change.

Sounds like a controversy about nothing in that case. COD is not being taken away from any platform, in fact, it's apparently coming to more.

"I was lucky and picked up the N64 controller at MSRP."

Lucky is an understatement!

And yeah, the N64 controller was too 'different' to reasonably map to a modern controller. The second you pick up an N64 controller though, despite being weird by modern standards, the muscle memory comes back and it just feels natural.

And none of those games are anywhere near as big as GTA V.

You summed it up perfectly - 6 years ago they made one VR mini-game which contained 7 of the 26 cases found in the full game, and then never revisited VR for any other title since.

It's not that I don't think the PSVR2 could run a cut down version of GTA V. It's that I don't think T2 are interested in that tiny market, the total amount of revenue they would make from VR, they can m...

Have you tried it? It's pretty terrible, unplayable really, especially with more than 2 players.

Also the controller still makes the online awful too. You need to be able to use both analog sticks if you aren't willing to fork out $150 on an N64 controller.

"One of the reasons that Sony wants continued sales and support from this franchise. "

And that they shall have. The 30% they are getting today, they will still be getting post acquisition.

And yes, games like COD, Fortnite etc and their MTX drive a lot of the 3rd party revenue that platform holders like Sony & MS report every quarter.

In what way? I guess they'll have more funding available technically, but it's not like Activision/COD has really struggled in that department.

Maybe we'll see more investment in their other IPs like Crash, Spyro etc.

That would have to be a very big check, likely beyond what Sony are looking to invest in VR. Capcom/RE isn't even remotely comparable to Rockstar/GTA V.

I'd love to be the fly on the wall when a project manager runs into their leadership strategy briefing to say "Hey, you know that game we made that sold nearly 200m units? Let's bring it to a platform where it will sell 1m if we're lucky!"

I expect PSVR2 to be similar to PSVR1, i...

The answer is clearly the Xbox version - just for the controls alone - unless you're lucky enough to have an N64 pad for Switch, the controls are horrible.

1105d ago 8 agree10 disagreeView comment

I don't see that happening, the dev costs would outweigh the benefits. Assuming 100% of VR owners bought it (unlikely), that's still only a few million. As we can see from these numbers, T2 aim far bigger than that.

Which is sad if they're considering killing those kinda games, because aside from DSR, they're the best games to come out of EA in recent times.

1106d ago 3 agree8 disagreeView comment

I'm sure they're interested in that too, King makes a lot of money and T2 bought Zynga so they probably want some foothold in that market too.

But COD is huge in the console/PC space, no doubt about it.

1106d ago 5 agree31 disagreeView comment

Hopefully they don't consider games like A Way Out and It Takes Two as 'niche'.

To be honest, just shutter the Originals program and fund more Hazelight games. That would be a welcome change.

It's kind of crazy to think that GTA V will likely hit the 200m mark... I think the only other game that has broken that mark is Minecraft.

Still, I hope we see GTA6 soon. I'm hungry for a new GTA game.

COD continues to be a beast, also not surprised it did that well, the MW series is always an 'on year' for COD and people were hungry after the 'off year' that was Vanguard. This is exactly why MS are dropping 70bn on them.
