I'm glad Oculus was purchased by Facebook, people have been throwing money at ridiculous Kickstarter projects for too long. If a product is a good fucking idea someone will fund it. When you use Kickstarter you literally give private businesses free money with no interest in that company.

Something like Kickstarter that allowed people to provide venture capital with an actual interest in the business would be much better, but companies wouldn't use it. As it stands K...

Sony is not going to adopt an entirely new graphics API for the PS4 post system release.

I think an even bigger issue with the image quality in TLOU comes from the low-resolution particle buffers, and some shadows being extremely blocky in certain environments.

Overall though I still think TLOU looks great, probably the best looking game on 7th gen consoles. Had you showed me TLOU in 2006 and said it was a PS4 title I probably would have believed it when comparing it to stuff out at the time like Resistance.

Sony briefly tried putting advertisements during loading screens in Wipeout HD on the PS3, but they were quickly removed due to user complaints. (most of which were related to the fact that the game took longer to load because the ad had to finish playing)

Yeah, I think the only true Maxwell GPU currently available is in the GTX 750 and 750Ti.

I agree, the PC version of Watch Dogs will only look marginally better than the PS4 version, similar to Assassin's Creed.

This has been happening a lot with Wii U games. Fans have claimed 1080p 60fps over and over again but it wasn't true with Pikmin 3 (720p) and it wasn't true with WWHD (30fps).

So far every screen shot of Mario Kart 8 that Nintendo has released has been 720p, and if you look at polygon edges it is very clearly rendered natively at 720p without AA. There is no evidence of downsampling.

"There are mid range mobile phones with lower clock speed out now that can perform a hell of a lot better than 360 and PS3."

This is blatantly false despite what Nvidia marketing would lead you to believe. Qualcomm's Snapdragon 805 will be the first SoC that truly rivals the PS3 and 360 in power, as it will be the first SoC to offer more than 20GB/s of memory bandwidth.

Currently the Snapdragon 800 and Apple A7 are a lot more powerful than the ...

I'm pretty sure that GlobalFoundries actually manufactures the APUs in both consoles, so if AMD dissolved it would probably only hurt the development of revisions and die shrinks.

I enjoyed Left Behind fine but I'm getting tired of the notion that it is a groundbreaking work of fiction that pushes the medium forward.

A girl kissed another girl, who the fuck cares. The LGBT community is not well represented in games because guess what, the majority of game customers are not a member of that community.

The PS4 has more than 6x the pixel fillrate of the PS3 and Xbox 360, with 6x the memory bandwidth of the PS3 and 360 GPUs.

That's exactly how these advancements work. When the Xbox 360 launched most of its games were 720p with 2-4xMSAA. It only goes downhill from here in regards to resolution and anti-aliasing.

I'd say the difference is still significant enough considering the console capable of the higher resolution is also $100 cheaper.

I liked the 360 and felt that Microsoft made better decisions regarding the hardware than Sony did, but they fucked up this time around. Maybe if the Xbox One was $399 as well it would be more forgivable. In an era of HiDPI displays however, a $500 game console that can't even handle 1080p is pretty pathetic.

Sure it's not necessary, but neither is a smart phone for most users. The argument that "it isn't necessary" is really stupid when we're talking about luxury items like game consoles that cost half a grand.

My 1080p smart phone doesn't have issues with battery life though, and the more difficult it is to resolve pixels on a display, the better it is.

This is such a stupid debate. 1080p is undeniably better, if you can't see the difference you should get your eyes checked.

If 1080p isn't necessary why do we even need new consoles? Phones come with 1080p screens now, 720p on a brand new console in 2014 is inexcusable, especially one that starts at $499.

@ ABizzel1

The SRAM on the Xbox One is not faster than the eDRAM on the Xbox 360. The Xbox 360 eDRAM had 256GB/s of memory bandwidth, compared to at best ~200GB/s of memory bandwidth. (100GB/s peak read/write speed)

It is larger though and able to do more (360 eDRAM was limited to frame buffer operations) so it's probably better overall. 10MB was not really large enough on the 360 which is why tiling was implemented in most games that had a 720p rendering...

@ TomShoe

This thing won't be able to compete with the PS3 and Xbox 360 on a performance basis. While mobile GPUs are catching up in raw performance, they're still crippled by mobile memory interfaces.

One issue this chip will have when comparing to something even as old as what's in the PS3 or 360 is memory bandwidth.

Apple tried to work around the bandwidth issue on the A5x and A6x by increasing the size of the memory bus. On the A7 they went back to a 64-bit memory bus and added 4MB of on die SRAM to mitigate the bandwidth issues.

If Nvidia truly wanted to surpass the PS3/360 they'd probably want a 128-bit memory bus paired with on-die SRAM. Memo...

That's what confused me as well, there were a few points that had some obvious stutters which should not be happening on a port of a game also available on PS3/360.

Played this on the PS4 last night, it's an interesting game. Graphics were a little underwhelming given the power of the PS4 but it is also on the PS3 and 360 so I suppose that should be expected.

Is it really the best 1080p Blu-ray player though? PS3 supports 1080p 3D Blu-ray, while the PS4 currently does not.
