But Sony doesn't use standard APIs. Last Gen they used PSGL and GCM, this generation it is GNM and GNMX. GNM is ultra efficient and a little more difficult to use but allows essentially direct access to the GPU with ultra low CPU overhead. GNMX wraps around GNM and provides a DirectX or OpenGL like environment at the expense of some CPU cycles and custom GPU access.

The Xbox One APU already has a larger die than the PS4 APU, if they doubled the ESRAM it would be MUCH larger and a lot more expensive than it already is.

The Xbox One will probably benefit the least from DirectX 12 because the API it already uses is likely what DirectX 12 is based upon. Game consoles always come with streamlined graphics APIs, the PS3 and 360 had customized versions of OpenGL and DirectX and the PS4 does as well so it stands to reason that the Xbox One does too.

I'd like mp3 support, jpeg support, and at least a few video codecs like mpeg4. On my PS3 I have around 60GB of music and photos, and another 100GB of video files, I really miss these features on PS4.

Despite Cinavia on PS3 the video file support was still pretty useful.

I did not use it to watch pirated movies though.

Because that's not how bandwidth utilization works. You can fill 8GB of RAM while only using a small amount of bandwidth if your program isn't using tons of large reads and writes. CPUs usually don't need that sort of memory bandwidth, and I seriously doubt the PS4 or Xbox One OS uses more than 30% of the system memory bandwidth despite using something like 30% of the total memory.

The Titan Black is the fastest single GPU card on the market, the GTX 780 Ti and GTX Titan Black are both based on GK110 and have the same number of stream processors. The only difference is that the Titan black has 2x the memory, a slightly higher clock speed, and much much better FP64 performance.

The original Titan was slightly slower than the GTX 780Ti but that was because it came out almost a year earlier, and by the time the 780Ti manufacturing had improved enough to en...

I was always suspicious of pre-ordering games on PSN due to the full price nature and paying $60 up front for a game that won't be out for months but this is truly ridiculous.

It's not even that it's 720p, it's 720p encoded in fairly low-bitrate H.264 which will look noticeably worse than a PS4 natively outputting in 720p.

There are already games that are 1080p 60fps on PS4 like MGS V: Ground Zeroes and Outlast. Every developer could do it if they were willing to trade off visual quality for performance, most are not however.

Someone from Naughty Dog announced it on their site when E3 was going on after the trailer was shown.

I think it's being said ironically, it's used frequently on 4chan's video game board to bash consoles.

Killzone: Shadow Fall is not 60fps in single player, it's >30fps though and stays that way so it always feels pretty smooth. In multi-player they drop the resolution from 1920x1080 to 960x1080 so while it stays closer to 60fps, it does so by compromising the fantastic graphics.

Agreed, I love it on my Xperia Z1.

Sony really needs to bring back mp3 and local video playback, I put a 1TB hard drive in my PS4 for a reason!

The biggest difference will probably be rendering resolution, PS4 at 1080p with Xbox One at 792p or maybe 900p.

Yeah I think the white PS4 looks nice but I prefer my black one as it's next to my black PS3 and black Xbox 360.

Both versions looks great though, dat gorgeous angular design

I'm in the alpha as well (got a random invite from Sony, didn't register for anything or pre-order) and I've enjoyed it quite a bit. Before the alpha the game wasn't really even on my radar but now I'm seriously contemplating a purchase this fall.

My biggest complaint is that the game does not support split-screen at all, a huge disappointment. I could understand if there were performance concerns on last-gen hardware in regards to implementing the feature...

You're obviously getting a bunch of disagrees because no one even understands how current 120Hz and 240Hz TVs work.

They only accept a refresh rate of 60Hz or 24Hz via HDMI and then use the internal processor to generate extra frames via a process known as motion interpolation. These added interpolated frames make the image appear to be more smooth, but the actual content the TV is receiving is not in 120Hz or 240Hz.

When watching a Blu-ray in 24Hz mode ...

Of course they are, both next-gen consoles have 16x the amount of RAM.
