So you think that everything should just be priced according to salary? Are you a Communist, because you sound like it.If people want something and cannot afford it, they should save up for it.
Devs need to be rewarded. In order to be rewarded, people must buy their games. If you can't afford it, work harder tp get a better job, or wait until the price drops.
The fact is that someone is willing to go through the hassle of pirating it, they probably have t...
@Ratchet8
Of course it is. I have a degree in Economics, so I know that as well as anyone.
However there is market failure here caused by the fact that video games are not homogenous products, and are protected by intellectual property laws.
Essentially, you get a sort of semi-collusion, whereby consumers cannot simply go and buy another console to play the same game from a different company (yes, I mean some random company would create an id...
Because exclusives are anti-consumer,
I should not need three almost identical machines to play all the games out there.
That's like having three cars because some places will only allows BMWs to visit.
Yes but PCs are unaffordable to many.
The reason people buy consoles is ease of use and good value, both of which could be achieved on PC if Microsoft and Sony started mass producing identical spec machines.
Any console owner would love a PC if it was less stressful to use; there's more choice, and a more competitive market. I was one of them, but made the leap from PS3 to PC several years ago.
A shame really.
Thankfully, with Microsoft trying to merge Windows and Xbox, the era of wasting money on three different machines just to play all the games we want might be coming to a close.
It would be great if we had devs making games and manufacturers producing the cheapest PCs possible with which to run them. We would all benefit from this hugely.
Best strategy game: Unravel? Seriously?
What about Stellaris?
30 years of "being a dude" IS THE REASON he shouldn't be a lady.
I mean would people honestly accept "Lori Croft" the male? They wouldn't accept a female Link either. Furthermore, it is important to realise that video games are not made only for feminists: the world does not revolve around this one sub community of people (though they seem to think it does).
I don't understand why female characters have to be "badass".
What is wrong with them being feminine, like 80% of women actually are in real life?
Female character or male character: it's all the same. Contrary to what many people think, changing the sex of the main character is not going to make any game "fresh".
Rather, that takes gameplay innovations, which Assassin's Creed is sorely lacking.
Yet more social justice tripe.
Pass.
Well of course most people won't understand it.
I expect only those with university degrees in complaining would!
However it is quite easy to understand the motives of the author (if not their points). One need simply read Nietzsche, as this is a prime example of how the "slave culture" of bending over backwards to serve others without recompense has become so endemic in our society today.
Meh, looks too angsty for me.
Pretty woman = object
Ugly, fat woman = real person with feeling and emotions
Truly pathetic.
True, but it is more than likely that at least the Xbox will basically become a standardized, mass-produced living room PC, given Microsoft's recent focus on integrating PC and Xbox.
Thus, all Xbox owners will own "gaming PCs" which will, while admittedly not match the best gaming desktops, still be of excellent quality. And then most PC/Xbox games will probably come with a preset "Xbox" graphics setting optimizing it for that machine, to make life eas...
Data from those sites can be ignored, as those keys have already been purchased in the primary market (from an authorized reseller).
The data all adds up without needing to include them.
Those keys often come from retail copies. Thus they do not count as digital sales.
Or they will originally come from GOG, Steam, Origin, or the Humble Store.
So basically, that G2A key you might buy is actually already "bought" elsewhere, as you are paying for it on the secondary market.
Basically, you can find out the exact number of digital sales by counting up the sales of all official online sellers (authorized to sell as much a...
Microsoft can just put an Xbox store onto PC (like EA) and then sell their first-party games through that.
However good point about licensing fees and security. I suppose the idea would be that they might be able to shift more consoles, or even start muscling in on Steam with their own platform.
1) As devs would see it as a standardized platform, they would optimize for the console, so their games run as smoothly as possible. Otherwise they won't rack up sales from Xbox users.
2) It also erodes the PC advantage - why buy a PC if you have an Xbox (which would not be a Windows PC itself)?
Indeed it would. But then as PCs would now be Xboxes, and vice versa, you would technically own a Playstation and an Xbox.
And it's not like people with laptops will be able to play the latest games. They will have to buy an Xbox console or a gaming PC to get access to them.
As most people cannot afford to buy $1500+ gaming PCs, this will probably lead to more Xbox sales. I might (as a long-time PC gamer who started on Playstation) buy an Xbox for my livi...
'The majority'?
Where did you get that info from?
Of course that is not all lost money, but probably around 20% of it, still a fairly large sum, is. Bur again this is just me speculating. My stats are no more valid than yours. Without evidence, it could be 1-100% of that number.
