Having a pre-condition for playing a game is common on all platforms.

Think about this:

* Do you not have to have a device to play the game on?
* A TV?
* Pay for electricity?
* Internet service?

So in all respect, it ain't free to play for anyone on any platform!

However, it is free to play if you meet the requirements. Now is that so hard to understand or do we have to twist it in all sorts of w...

I am not.

This is for some major fan, because $300?

I don't even pay $100, but seriously considering that wireless Turtle Beach for $150 though.

The price PS Vita was praised for excluded the hidden cost of the memory card!

To top it off, the competition (Nintendo 3DS) lowered their price. That drastically shifted the value in Nintendo's favor, not to mention the more robust game catalog.

It doesn't matter what technology PS Vita has, because whatever it is, the consumer has to be willing to pay for it and currently very few do.

Nintendo did the right thing, by altering the p...

Usually the one that has less demand is the one that provides more features at a lower cost to attract buyers.

Value is defined as "features consumers want relative to price" and *NOT* just features regardless of desire!

Clearly MS is providing some value because the demand is still strong when the competition is at a lower price point.

@Kobe357:

"Thanks for your opnion bud but just because it reigns true for you doesn't mean it applies to the others that have and will buy a Vita"

I didn't claim it was universal, but it sure seems like it with the slow PS Vita sales!

4k resolution?

PS Vita / PS4 crossplay?

That's a recipe for disaster! Nobody cares about that except a niche market relegated to PC enthusiasts and very wealthy people.

What the PS4 need aren't specific features, but a coherent strategy executed with a top of the line and easy to user interface. None of that clunkiness plaguing the PS3/PSN.

Playstation 4 also needs to be a leaders in areas that matter, and not a leade...

The Kinect has actually outsold the Xbox 360 on a year on year basis. As of January 2012, it sold 18 million worldwide.

Kinect is also deemed by Guinness World Record to be "fastest selling consumer electronics device".

@Hicken:

It is called momentum. When you loose that momentum, consumers also loose interest followed by developers and the evil cycle continues.

At least Nintendo was wise enough to make a drastic cut to turn around the 3DS fortunes. I don't see the botched management at Sony doing that with their announcement of no price for PS Vita this year!

If you yourself don't invest in your own platform, NOBODY else will!!!

Nothing that justifies a $250 purchase plus another $50 for the memory card excluding the games.

I would rather get a smart phone and at least I can do plenty of other things than just game on it. It is far more portable too.

Heck, I could get a 3DS for almost half the price of a PS Vita and it has games!!!

Even carrying around an extra battery pack, my smart phone is still far smaller and lighter than a PS Vita!

I don't generally play for more than 1-2 hours in one sitting anyhow.

@hellvaguy:

Maybe you should consider:

* getting a new battery
* stop installing software that runs in the background
* get off Android!

@Hicken:

"Maybe, just MAYBE that'll be enough to get some people interested?"

That is what Sony is hoping for! However, it doesn't seem to be working and this time PS Vita don't have the brand power to save them like the PS3.

So Obama wants to wean us off oil by not giving Americans an alternative means of transportation and cutting off oil supply available here in the US?

That's a great plan!

Sounds more like a blackmailing the working class to enrich oil nations!!!

"People- particularly Xbox fanboys like yourself- were hating on the PS3 for doing more than just games. However, now that the 360 is taking the same route- replete with web browser- that same crowd thinks it's perfectly okay."

@Mounce:

Have you used Windows 8?

Saying it does not improve experience indicates you have not properly tried Windows 8 or at all!

The immediate improvement is a significant performance boost. Faster bootup time, faster shut down time, and far more lightweight all around. Windows 8 performance wise runs circle around Windows 7. That alone justifies the $40 for the upgrade. People buy RAM or SSD to improve speed, why not upgrade an OS?

That is like MS claming success for iPhone because they had a smart phone back in 2000....

It doesn't matter what you do, unless it is successful. Otherwise nobody else gives two cents.

That said, the Xbox was an early media center (that the community also released Xbmc) and the PS2 could play DVDs.

I can kind of see that, but I loved it in ME. If there are multiple endings, it better damn well be because I made significant different choices.

Otherwise as you say, it cheapens the experience!

or just upgrade for the better Windows experience. Windows 8 despite a few quirks is by far better experience. It's a steal at $40 upgrade.
