In Europe it is actually quite opposite. Here the Sony brand is still quite strong (despite the decades of decline). So people automatically choose Playstation, because it is a Sony product.

MS are putting all their resources into the next Xbox.
You didn't see much resources put into the Wii last year, because of Wii U this year.
However, that pattern doesn't hold with Sony. Sony is still working on some games for the PS3, so I suspect they might not release a PS4 next year.

Because MS has time and time again shown that apart from games, they lead. In the games department, they have heavy hitters and ways to secure third party preference.

If there is one thing a company is really good at, it is to react to something they got hurt really badly from.
I doubt MS will ever have another RROD incident, just because it is within their control and it freaken cost them a billion dollar, a lot of bad publicity and lost many customers.
If it did happen again, I would trust MS to handle it more gracefully than other companies that dismiss it, settle the lawsuit later, doesn't acknowledges it and gives...
I know, unlike another company that got sued for a disc drive problem, dragged it out until the generation essentially ended then offered:

We are talking about some of the games already released on a disc format that just needs to go digital too.
Many of them are still not released and likely never will now.
I cannot wait for Gears of War: Judgement albeit a little apprehensive, due to all the changes. However, that should bring a fresh new take on Gears of War!

This sounds like the PSP Go debacle, where Sony promised day and date releases on digital games, only to release the game late and in many cases never ever released it in Europe!
Some people complain about sequelitis! Others, complain about a game changing it up too much!!!

I agree that KillZone was a better game, but they both were still generic. At least neither of them was Haze!
I think Resistance 3 got so poor sales I doubt Sony would bother with a 4th one. They are far more likely to make do with one of the other more favorable franchises.

Pre-orders tend to be proportional to the actual unit sales when the game is released. It is a measure resellers use to determine how many they order and how big of a push they are going to make.
That is how the industry has worked for ages as I'm surely you are no stranger to it.
Actually, Sony or MS buying Activision doesn't mean any franchise has to be exclusive. It only means favoritism to one platform. Besides that, MS could influence Blizzard to release some of their games exclusively on PC and Xbox since they don't appear on consoles yet.
Keep in mind that only half of Activision Blizzard is on sale (unfortunately the half that has the power).
