Okay, that is a good argument. MP2 was tough - I loved that game, but yeah. I always thought 3 killed the series with all the (living) other characters, setting the stage for the Other M debacle. Fusion and Zero Mission were as good as it's been so far to me - if only they'd just make a new one in that format! Maybe a new 3ds sprite-based side scroller, or a much higher-res one on WiiU.
You're right. It's a design decision overall - do I pack as many polygons on screen as possible to make screenshots look better, or do I optimize this game to run at a smooth framerate? My preference is the latter, I think just about every game out there would benefit from running at 60. Some go for a more "cinematic" feel, with 30fps looking a bit like the 24fps movie framerate, but I say screw it. If you want to make a movie, make a movie.
Yeah, Corruption was a weird one, though. It was awesome that it came out so early in the Wii's cycle, but even that game threw out some special stuff about Metroid with all its ancillary characters, and remember - the Wii's graphics basically were like GameCube-enhanced instead of something new. A game like that needed some stunning new visuals, and not only did it look a bit uninspired, it didn't look that different from the other two Primes in fidelity. This would be a leap for...
Well, let's be real here, DKR was done right, and Metroid: Other M, while having some interesting stuff, was mostly a ton of crap. While DKR had you waggle the Wii-mote to do a stomp attack, that's nothing compared to the weird "Okay, now change your perspective by pointing this faulty remote at the screen and hope that it recognizes the action" crap. DKR was a pitch-perfect return to form for the series.
And then there was the presentation. Oh man, was Othe...
Scurvy Scalawags totally destroys all of these games if you've got an iOS device.
Yeah, Mario Kart's supposed to come out in Spring 2014. I think they're talking "fiscal" 2013.
That's great, because Spring 2014's around the time when the WiiU will finally have accrued an amount of games that's around what they should have had for their launch year. I'll be interested for sure, and I may get the thing for MK8 the way it looks!
Man, the design on these tracks. I get the next-gen graphics thing, I really do, but throughout all those demos, I don't think I saw graphics that *looked* this good from an aesthetic standpoint. Maybe FFXV - maybe. The video's obviously a 30fps video, I hope the game really is running at 60. This... this might make me want a Wii U. Like, seriously, I've been poking fun at that thing for so long, but if this is as good as it looks, sign me the heck up.
Oh Spielberg, but I cried every time one of your Boom Blox went boom. And Lucas, you were sooooo involved with The Force Unleashed that I couldn't help but have such a deep connection with Baldy Bro Starkiller Bro Bro. Truly these were the pinnacles of gaming!
And who could forget that tear-jerking moment when... EA announced The Old Republic was free to play! *sob sob sob!*
I'm guessing they will do exactly that. Here's why:
After Melee, Nintendo's philosophy seemed to be "bigger, more stuff." It didn't matter what it did to the game, there just needed to be *more*. Mario Kart on GC? Add another character on the back of the kart. Mario Kart Wii? Put a wheel on it! Metroid Prime 3 - more characters! Who cares about isolation and a sense of loneliness? Let's be freaking Halo! Even Super Mario Galaxy, on a surface leve...
Cool, but as I said above, the tech goings-on in Europe often don't affect the US in the slightest, especially when Microsoft is concerned. For all our antitrust laws, it seems that they beat us to the punch across the pond. I would hope that having this bill passed in Parliament would mean something for us over here, but I wouldn't hold my breath.
Dodge, dip, dive, duck, and dodge!
But really, we know what was going on here, and there's no illuminati about it - MS was thrilled to have their studios get a cut of the used games profits. They figured other companies would sign on exclusively with them - because why not? free money! - without realizing that other companies - even some pretty evil companies - thought this was a dumb idea which would throw consumers out of the industry.
Sony's announ...
Er, Time Warner Cable won't be affected by a UK bill. Playstation's a way bigger brand in the UK already anyway, Microsoft would just have a tougher time bringing their thing over there without making a new version.
Par for the course for Microsoft. They've had to revamp their European versions of Windows for years while they get to do whatever they please over here most of the time.
There's an amazing Gaf thread on what this means for the gameplay system. It seems like yes, there's magic, the menu changes when you use it. You can equip a ton of weapons and use them in Linkform, including duplicates.
I just... this looks like what a Crisis Core 2 should be, and I couldn't be happier.
Eh. Even that article is like "This is kinda common." I'm not worried. At the very most, they have to make up for some losses by not making as many throwaway NIS games. I don't think our SMT or Etrian Odyssey are going anywhere.
Consoles weren't supposed to be cell phones, Spencer. We got them because they *didn't* do what cell phones do. If your console is just a hybrid of a PC and a cell phone, we don't want it. Especially people in developing countries don't want it. Ugh. Change or lose, Xbone!
Also, giving a cell phone analogy really doesn't work when you're talking about modding. I mean, how big is the Android market? Those things are still rootable, and still constantly...
If it's anything like Crisis Core - with much more improved swordplay and control over spells - sign me up!!!! That was the best PSP game, and the best Final Fantasy from there until present, hands down.
That was a really unique circumstance - they did X-bone FFXIII... would FF13 be better if it didn't go multiplatform? Probably, in that it would have released earlier. But how much better? Squenix mismanaged themselves into a hole last generation - so badly that their old CEO is now kaput.
They didn't just make a game for PS3 and the Cell processor, they made an entire freaking graphics engine for it, after they had already prototyped a PS2 FFXIII before deciding on t...
Meh, I'm not sweating this at all. Both systems are much more similar this gen than last gen in terms of architecture. Multiplatform titles will be much easier to release simultaneously. The PS4 versions will run better and probably have some extra stuff, but I don't think this will set back development a year per game the way FFXIII happened. At the very least, Squenix won't have to worry about how to fit all that content on to 3 DVD's. No one's going to get Bayonetta'...
I understand, in a way - a WiiU Mario should really have its own style and be its own thing.
However, I LOVED 3D Land, and putting it on WiiU gives the designers much more space per level. The SMW theme looks much more attractive than the SMB3 theme of the past one.
Give me a [year-old spoilers...] ridiculously hard special world set like on 3D Land, and I might consider getting a WiiU.
A Kirby first-person sucker? I still dream of a day where I hear the words "Kirby's Dream Course 2," but I'm weird like that.
