And I hope they're bringing back Devil Summoner, now that SMT IV's out of the way. That particular team needs to bring us some more Raidou!
It is a series of chores - but it's a series of chores in a world where everyone means relatively well. You're in debt, but you never accrue interest or get a collector after you. No one else in town is trying to be the mayor. You have a small town, but the most well-known musician in that world still comes to play, because he likes it, not to maximize profits. Give a guy an orange, and he's so happy that you get a sofa. 400,000 bells owed to Tom Nook? That's only a few trips ...
Man, when I found out about Fire Emblem: Awakening and realized Shin Megami Tensei IV was around the corner, I upgraded mine to an XL. And then they gave me $30 because I had both titles! Between SMT IV and Animal Crossing, this summer has been the Summer of the 3DS for sure.
As a fan of the higher-tier old school Japanese games, 3DS has become a godsend. And now I'm sitting on $30 eShop cash - the cash is waiting for Pokemon, but I'm still grinding toward the neutra...
It's a nickel-cadmium megaton!!
Well? What did you think? Is it as fun as the original, or more so? Because if it is, I'm in.
"If they can make living, breathing worlds like GTA and WatchDogs (etc., etc.)then something like Suikoden should be no problem."
Look, I loved Suiko 1 through 5, and there's absolutely no way that a Konami Suikoden team could be equated with Rockstar or Ubisoft. Those companies see a huge amount of customers for their two games you just mentioned, so massive projects with huge teams were invested in, hoping that the giant amounts of money thrown at the project...
Yeah. I can't wait to pay for Xbox Live Gold so that I can put Internet Explorer on my TV. Seriously, it's the 3rd bullet point on the list! It's a paid priority! To put Internet Explorer on someone's TV! I thought that was a prank, not a feature.
Mind 0? What the heck is this game?
*checks it out*
Well, I'm glad that other companies see a Persona-like game as something that should be made. If only SMT were as influential as Gears, man, that would be the day. Still, this looks like Not Persona. I can see where this would be tough to market, regardless of how good it actually is.
Yeah, because Disney Magic Castle is just full of both of those! Or Phoenix Wright. And don't even get me started on that perverted Mario and Luigi: Dream Team. The things we do to make money in Japan, I tell ya.
*rolls eyes*
I'm pretty sure NIS will find another publisher if it's not Atlus. Disgaea is a lower-cost thing with a good enough fanbase, I don't think Atlus' sale will make it go away or jump exclusivity. Heck, NIS could self-publish and just fund localization work through their America branch.
Nintendo hasn't *been* away from Atlus, how could they *stay* away? They've allowed Atlus to create great content on a lower-tech platform, and the results so far (EO, SMT, Strange Journey) are staggeringly good for the hardcore RPG crowd. It's a big reason why a lot of gamers have a 3DS in the first place.
Atlus' main creative branch has become Nintendo's new Treasure over the past couple of years - a scrappy, low-tech ragtag bunch with a ton of ideas and...
As down as I felt about Sega, given how they treat their own titles toward a Western audience, what was their last acquisition? Creative Assembly. How did Creative Assembly change when Sega got them? Well, their games got a bit more promotion on Steam, that's for sure. They develop their stuff in nearly the same way. The only big thing they've done is close a floundering Melbourne studio, and assumedly they consolidated that group into the bigger UK studio anyway.
I...
These were done by mostly outside studios, with the best one, Mii Force, done by Good-Feel, responsible for Kirby's Epic Yarn. The others are done by other small Japan studios like Grezzo. Honestly, it was a brilliant move, they're going to profit from this in a huge way. I, however, can't play Mii Force at the moment, since my play coins are caught up in the racket that is Animal Crossing. :P
Be careful linking all of those together. This isn't a re-release, it's a full remake with additional content. It seems to have been done with a lot of respect for the original game. To me, this is a lot like Bionic Commando: Rearmed (no, not that "My arm is my wife" game, the other one), which kept all the good stuff of the original and made a new game with it. And that game was awesome. Let's hope this one's done that well.
Contrast that with a bad...
Yeah. R&D is a necessary expense.
@gedden7, I get it, but Nintendo *does* spend a lot on R&D. They develop their next console as soon as the current one releases - sometimes before that. The WiiU was an idea from way back, but it cost way too much money until it was too late. This time around, R&D didn't hit them hard, since they had this "war chest" of money they made off of casual gamers with the original Wii. Now, the WiiU sales are finally bitin...
Not only that, they make some of the best 3DS games out there if you've got a love of RPG's and the guts to face down some of the most cruel developers in the business. Maybe 3DS doesn't equal money from the start, but with the following they have on that system, they sure do.
Guys, seriously, read the actual article. Parish and Davison are some of the best in games writing, especially anything old-school. The amount of crazy ephemeral knowledge they've got about these old franchises is staggering - check out Parish on Retronauts, for example.
They're not talking sales figures directly, they're wondering if Square can re-establish Final Fantasy as setting the bar for the genre and industry the way it once was. That doesn't mean sha...
Wait, so does that mean Gabe Newell at some point gave girl gamers a bad name? I mean, he did fund and publish Portal through Valve...
"The oversight and accountability that you have in a publisher model is essentially lost when the relationship consists merely of an infusion of cash at the beginning of development. We’ve already seen a number of projects get delayed, and, in several cases, developers have been accused of taking the money and running."
Yes, but when it works, I'd say that the lack of a publisher model is a great thing, if not well-regulated. An infusion of money from fans skips...
