"The only time you have to update your console is when it breaks or a new one comes out, so every 10 years now."
I nearly freaking fell out of my chair laughing at this one. The ten-year cycle marketing Kool-Aid has certainly come full circle.
"So go ahead and play what you want on anything you want, but don’t assume one is better than the other. They’re the same in terms of money."
Um. You haven't heard of the Humble...
Skip should be right. Nintendo doesn't need some graphics powerhouse to make extremely beautiful games. They do handhelds well. It should stand to reason that even a WiiU-quality graphics output on a handheld w/HDMI out and a controller connection via Bluetooth or even their current wireless tech would be their next move - none of this split stuff anymore, just one handheld and console. Easier for their second-party devs that way, too.
It's probably just a different set of ESRB reviewers and a lack of Quelaag or Gw... um... whatever, that princess. Reviewers are so scared of anything sexual, but that's never been what Souls has been about. There's not much about the original Dark Souls that deserved the M rating anyway. So long as they've got an uncompromising aesthetic and Dat Gameplay, I'm all set.
I love how the title on N4G, along with the filename and title heading on GI, all say "Effect your gaming," while the article's headline says the correct "Affect your gaming."
Unless the Net is suddenly super-fast, it's not going to effect (start, give rise to) more of my gaming. It'll affect it either way, though, if a good appeal or a rules change from the FCC doesn't go through.
Steam gets a cut of the transaction, in that they're the service it's delivered through. However, it's the developer/publisher that's charging for the actual Early Access game. If that developer or publisher suddenly cancels it, it's on them. Their refunds for pre-orders before the release (aka before you get any content), or incorrect transactions, are through them, and they usually do refund. That's the legal ground I think they can stand on. It's on the publishe...
I get where he's coming from. I see that award everywhere and I have a combination of feeling like "Well, Naughty Dog is a great studio, and they made something really atmospheric, so that's really cool. It's probably one of the best of the year." And then there's the other part of me who wants other games to have a bit of a chance - out of any game this year, this is the "blockbuster" movie-lite, TPS triple-A game. It's the safe one.
I...
The key there is that it's cheap to do it on 3DS. They've already taken an N64 Zelda and brought it to the 3DS - with the low amount of detail on N64 games, the low poly count and extra artwork demand of bringing it to the 3DS instead of an HD console, the already-established workflow with devs who just did the same exact thing a few years ago... it's cheap.
"But they did it for Wind Waker on WiiU!" Yes, have you seen Wind Waker uprezzed on Dolphin? All ...
At least it isn't "Kill all babies!"
Well, thankfully it's not NG 2 or 3. A Symphony of the Night-esque expansive, loot-laden Ninja Gaiden 1 as Alucard/Dracula could be freaking amazing. I'm guessing that's not in the cards, reading this article.
I'm just glad they released more details instead of just being confrontational about it. That's exactly what they needed to do after that kinda dumb rant about "Don't judge it until you play it" they posted on GAF while leaking very sparse news about it and basically saying "Trust me, it's going to be good." Honestly, I wish studios were more forthcoming on their own about this stuff early on - maybe that's not how you get 1% more day-one purchases, but...
So according to Kaz, people don't just buy a new system because it's new. They buy a new system BECAUSE THE FEELS, BRO.
I think we're finally at the point where we know that offering a digital rights-transfer of a previously owned physical game for free is a copyright quagmire. They'd have sold more legit games on PSP and stemmed the tide of piracy if they had a UMD/Digital transfer process, that's why Sony planned it out in the first place, and surprise, it never happened, except for a small amount of titles per system depending on what publishers allowed.
And that's just it. ...
It's a nice anecdotal story, but you can also look at some numbers. Check out Q Games, a largely Japanese company even though it's run by an American. They made more money off of the Steam Sale for Pixeljunk Eden than they ever did selling it at full price.
Honestly, I don't care how much it takes to make some of these bigger games. They're often not worth sixty bucks in terms of design and quality, and I hardly even pick up most AAA titles at 80% off for tha...
Basically, "I'm so pissed about your rage toward the small bit of information we could leak out! Don't judge it until you've played this game that's mostly hidden away under NDAs. Bloody peasants." How dare you imply that we, under the watchful care of Electronic Arts, would ever release something that didn't live up to the hype we generated?
I think we're all done trusting any games under the EA umbrella until they launch, right? No one'...
More like FLIP TO THE NEXT PAGE, AMIRITE
You know, I thought the game to make us flip was the Creative Assembly Alien game that looks quite like Amnesia in the original Alien canon. That looks awesome.
Er, because it's the same exact title on two systems. Look, dude, I have no agenda here, it's just interesting that the FF HD could even come close in sales. Loved all three of those games.
Meh. I get the rage over there not being a real canon connection or even a deeper explanation, but I'm not that opposed to the article. Obviously, this palace was an interesting historical landmark in both architecture and defense - to see it highlighted in two recent games from different developers in different countries is pretty freaking cool. It's not a coincidence so much as it's at least two people without much connection going "Hey, this building was pretty neat!"...
Great Zelda sales, of course, but if you combine the also newly-released FFX/X-2 HDs for Vita and PS3, they actually knock Zelda off of the #1 spot. Even though we all know that FF does pretty well in Japan, that's impressive to be up there with one of the best Zeldas in the past decade or so.
The last real Burnout was Burnout Paradise, a game that tons of other racers would have only dreamed of imitating. It was light-years ahead of anything else like it out there, and that was a follow-up to the best iteration on their previous Burnout numbered series. If there, hypothetically, was another big Burnout from that old non-EA'd studio, I don't think we'd see a rehash.
Basically, not all franchises are a bad thing, so long as they're done right. Until...
Also, they merged their R&D console and hardware teams shortly after WiiU was released. With both working together, they should at least have the complete vision and core functionality they want out of the systems down by now.
Releasing this in, say, November 2015, would dampen the price of the parts they need. I'd say that the rumored stuff above, if true, is a very early build - a prototype. Parts will change drastically in-between now and when they need that system...
