"Let’s not forget all the PS3 hype about Cell and BR being holy grails of console gaming. And what happened? Xbox 360 games using ancient DVD discs holding a fraction of storage space seem better as a whole. Better performing, don’t have many mandatory installs"
This statement is absurd. First of all there are games on the 360 with mandatory installs. Off the top of my head Halo 4 is the first that comes to mind. There is a second disc that comes in the case that...
It's obvious where the two companies priorities are.. Sony is using GDDR5 which places graphics as a priority. Don't get me wrong 8 gigs of RAM is more than enough to handle all of the processing needs of the console. But being GDDR5 shows that Sony is more concerned with gaming. Microsoft is placing a lot of emphasis on Multimedia functionality.
I disagree something that costs hundreds of dollars and will take up the primary position in your A/V stack then the look of it is important..
@Omar91 The issue with revealing early like they have is that there was little to no hype surrounding the announcement and the design was very underwhelming. Of course that's just my opinion but as someone who has been gaming since the NES I feel that my opinion holds merit. As far as their E3 press conference being fully devoted to games I'm going to call false. Knowing Microsoft it's fair to say that they will focus primarily on the multimedia functions like Kinect, APPS, TV fun...
@kneon I can respect your opinion but if I'm going to be paying hundreds of dollars and have it take a prominent position in my av stack then I want it to have a pleasing design. It's not a deal breaker by any means but I deem it in the top 3 important features.
So you are basing the entirety of your opinion on the release schedule of their games and hardware rather then the value that you get out of the product? I smell bias.
@Darth Regardless of how you rationalize it the ps3 has a better track record of exclusives
Just because you don't have any interest in them does not negate the fact that Sony has placed more emphasis on games rather then social aspects. Microsoft has put all of their efforts over the last couple of years into Apps, timed exlcusive DLC, and LIVE in general..
@ALLWRONG So a statemet by a Netflix employee claiming that more of their usage comes from PS3 users means that they automatically play less games? Why can't ps3 users do both? I certainly do.. I spent 4 hours plaing God of War earlier today and will watch some netflix before bed... So again you are making baseless claims with no real proof to support them..
@templeton Heaven forbid that Sony doesn't bend over backwards to give YOU what you want.. I will never understand why people like you make such a huge deal out of backwards compatibility.. If you want to play ps3 games then keep your ps3.. It's not complicated.. I'm not buying a new system to play old games...
They haven't started taking pre-orders because they don't know the price, release date, and the number of units they will be allocated.. I'm not a big fan of gamestop but at least they don't take preorders before they know how many they will have and play this first come first serve game like some retailers.. I'm sure they will start taking pre-orders by E3 so just be patient..
So the ps3 didn't play music? Have a web browser? Skype? Online community via PSN? Hmm glad you know more than anyone else.. Multimedia is a very important aspect of playstation consoles. It's funny because people pay thousands of dollars for a big led flat screen smart tv whenever a 32" does all of the same things for a fraction of the price.. So your illustration is rather invalid..
@ALLWRONG Do you have any proof or statistics that back up your claim that ps3 users use their console for blu/rays and netflix more? Don't make statements like that if you don't have any proof..
Which is precisely why I don't buy used games nor do I sell my games to them.. Alot of people rationalize it by claiming it helps them buy and enjoy more games but it's just a way for people to be frugal.. I make less than 20k a year but manage to buy and play any game I want without buying and selling used games.. I simply preorder, and pay off overtime so I don't have to incur a large financial hit every time I want a game.. It's evident that Gamestop rakes in gobs of money ...
Backwards compatibility has no influence on my decision to buy a console.. I think gamers have developed a sense of entitlement and BC is one of those instances.. Sony has to protect it's bottom line and if that means removing BC to combat used game sales then so be it.. I never buy used games nor do I sell my games to companies like Gamestop.. I'll be more than happy to use Gaikai and PS+ to feed my ps3/ps2 needs..
I agree it was a very smart move on Sony's part.. It was also a stroke of brilliance to announce the launch this fall.. It seems Sony is bound and determined to avoid a bad launch..
Because we trust that Sony is making a good product.
I asked my Gamestop if they were taking pre-orders yet and they said they were not. I did sign up for the Gamestop first to know list so hopefully they will inform me as soon as pre orders are being accepted.. I want to make sure I have a PS4 at launch..
I hope it has alot of customisation options as well.. Maybe some different layout options, colors, what content is displayed etc
As a PS3 owner since launch and as of last month a 360 owner I can say without bias that I like both, however I lean towards the PS3.. Reasons being the ps3 having more exclusive content that I personally enjoy, more new IP's, free online, and I prefer the Dualshock controller.. I've been playing the 360 alot lately though too.. For me both PSN and Live are on par with one another.. The PSN is slightly behind in overall quality but the fact that it's free makes up for that.. I'...
@TheMeerkat I made a comment below about that.. 250mb ram for the GPU and 250 for the Cpu was an error on Sony's part and I think they found that out the hard way.. There was a processing bottle neck and hindered what was an excellent console..Imagine how insane the ps3 would have been given even just 1gig of ram let alone 8.
