Fact is that HD-DVD vs. Blu-Ray WILL NOT be decided in the next 4 years. By the time an actual winner is clear, the consoles will both be ready for the scrap-heap as anotehr new generation of hardware is revealed.
At THAT time, next-gen optical media drives will be in both consoles, but the difference is that those who do not buty PS3 will not have subsidied Sony's effort to "win" with the Trojan Horse PS3...
This just in....PS3 site proclaims console race over, PS3 major winner even with zero consoles produced....
If you want a different answer, just find a 360 fan site and look for a similar poll....
Of course, that won't stop "He-who-must-not-be-named " from trying to spin this into a major Sony "victory" and a reason "everyone" is gonna buy the PS3...
2008? You have to be kidding me...
That kind of advanced lead time can only mean this "game" is barely out of the concept stage.
I wouldn't say the videos sucked or looked anything like N64, but that is a loooooooong way off from release to start trying to hype a game.
I don't think the real argument in the public forums around the internet is about whether or not SOME people can and will afford the $600 (or $500 if it makes you happy) PS#.
There is no doubt many will do just that. The real truth is that Sony fanboys like to crow about the PS2 selling over 100M units and "dominating" the industry (even though it has been pointed out that the games-attach rate on XB and Xb360 is much higher than PS2 or presumably PS3). They love to...
Betamax WAS able to record on just as easily as VHS. I know this first hand because I had a beta-player (made by Sanyo) and I was able to record movies on the format off of cable TV easily back in teh early-1980's.
I do believe that HD-DVD will win out, but I believe that because the media and more importantly the production costs of HD-DVD are lower. Which is the single biggest market in home video? Sci-Fi? Comedy? Rommances? NOpe, nope and nope. It is PORN. Poor production...
now I am not so sure it matters too much anyway.
Here's why:
1) the hardcore fans of Blu_ray and of the Playstation name are going to buy the thing no matter what, even if it doesn't release until NEXT fall.
2) the price point of the launch has placed the PS3 firmly outside of the "gift idea" for about 75% of the American market and even moreof the market in other territories. Something like 80% of Japanese polled responded that it was too expensive...
I agree witht he O.P....
It is kinda sad to see a thread with 157 responses and think you are going to get to read some decent info and opinions only to find out that about 1/2 of teh 157 are froma 12-yr old foul motuhed punk who has had nearly all of his replies banned for spam...
WOW....an actual comment from this brain surgeon that hasn't been banned as spam yet....I thought such things were in the same rumor category as the working, production model PS3's....you know those 2 million or so that are going to be available at launch and the otehr 2 million more that will materialize in the 6 weeks from launch to the end of 2006 and the 2 million MORE PS3's that will suddenly take 3 months to manufacture by Spring 2007.
I wish someone would explain that ma...
You could buy an XB360 Premium (probably at a reduced price of $349 in spring 2007) and a copy of Halo 3, and a second controller, and a year of XBL, and a recharge pack for the batteries and STILL not spend as much as a single PS3 with NO GAMES, NO BLU-RAY MOVIES, NO SECOND CONTROLLER.
To say something like PS3 will outsell XB360 and Halo3 just based on tech specs, demos and rumors of its "possible" power is really not very bright at all, but more power to you all. ...
There is little doubt that the first batch of PS3's that eventually come off the assembly line are going to suffer a huge (by industry standard 3-5%) failure rate.
I would not be surprised to see them actuaklly double up the industry notm and come in at about 8-10% defects in the first run.
Why do I say this? Simply because of Blu-Ray. This is not only a new optical media format, it is also introducing a new laser (with a narrower focus - hence the ability to...
Sumnatzee has posted his feelings about the games on the 360 and how they do not meet his gaming needs. So be it - that is his opinion and no amount of childish flaming in the world will or should change it.
I do not agree with his assessment is all.
The list of games I have thoroughly enjoyed on the 360 so far includes:
FN RD3
COD2
GRAW
Tomb Raider : Legend
Far Cry Instincts : Predator
Battlefield 2 : Modern Co...
The nice thing about the Tom Clancy games is that each one actually is very similar to the others with a focus on a different style of gameplay.
Splinter Cell = solo stealth players
Ghost Recon = multiplayer stealth shooter
Rainbow Six = multiplayer tactical shooter
No matter what style of game you like you can have a TC game that is catered to it. Of course, with the online play in these games you can take these and jumble them up a bit, but I enj...
I thought you were banned....
I am sorry to bring up a subject from many other similar threads, but Blu-Ray for gaming is a pipe dream. Search this forum and go look at the comparisoon between Crysis and Reality photos. The take the time to realize that Crysis is a PC-only title that will be published on DVD-9!!!!! (Heck, it may even be launched on multiple CD-ROMS like many PC games still are).
If a game with in-game graphics engine and capabilities like THAT can still be published on DVD-9, then what ex...
OK, so the price of add-ons has your underwear in a bunch....let's speculate for a second on the "ancilliary" costs of PS3 ownership:
Online gaming fees (yes, the "service" is free, but since Sony is not building the gaming architecture to go with that service it means a per game fee from the developers - unless it is "sponsored" like Madden was for PS2) Let's be generous and assume that gamers will play 2 games a month that they will pay an onli...
AS long as the flow of good games for the 360 continues to pick up speed this year and into 2007, I don't care if PS2 sells another 100 million units.
I own both systems and I have played my PS2 exactly one time since March. I have to admit though that being able to go out and pick up a few games for the PS2 that I missed out on playing - like God of War and Resident Evil 4 - for less than $20 a piece is nice - if I ever got bored of playing the 360 that is, and with downloa...
Digital distribution is going to happen. The question is when not if.
Kutagari-san needs to stop making public statements already. It just seems that his foot is surgically implanted in his mouth lately. So far, based solely on Ken's good words the PS3 is going to be a next-generation DVD player/media center/computer with an upgradable (ie - outdatable) architecture adn an optical drive that will be irrelevant within 2 years of purchase. Man, that sounds hot. Where can I s...
Just curious, but if this article has any credibility at all (which it very well may not, I do understand that much), does it mean that ssj will be back to tell everyone about PS3's burning down his house? ;)
Just seems very improbable that ALL the news about the PS3 problems would be completely fabricated. Too much smoke everywhere - maybe from overheating PS3s - d'oh...;), there is probably SOME fire behind these reports. The key question is just how much.
Personally...
The BD format has already forced the PS3 to be delayed once and a second delay would be catastrophic for the platform.
I actually saw promo ads this week for BD players that now look to be highly dubious. Regardless of whether or not I want a PS3 at its launch price I do want to do a side-by-side with HD-DVD to compare and this is starting to look really bad with constant delays.
It really makes me wonder how many bugs are going to be found after the PS3 ships. ...
Only a select few players will actually get a PS3 in 2006. Even if the system does launch on time in November, there won't be close to enough units to go around. The thing will sell out instantly, so unless you are very lucky or very connected, I wouldn't bank on having a PS3 (unless of course you are a moron and would buy one off E-Bay for 3-4X retail cost).
That means the majority of the first wave of PS3 adopters won't even get a console until mid-2007 at the earliest. At...
