To say Sony has a lot banking on the success of the PS3 is kind of like saying the Titanic had a problem with iceburgs or water is wet.
They only have the entire future of the company and teh jobs of hundreds of thousands of people across the globe on the line.
I have not agreed with many of their moves leading up to the release of the PS3, and I still believe they are making a huge mistale in the pricing war at $600 for the fully-featured unit, but I will say this much ...
I think that overstates the importance of 1080p and also ignores the fact that 95% of the population couldn't tell a difference between 720p and 1080p in the first place.
What most, non-videophile people know about video resolution and quality calibrations could fit in a pocket cheat sheet. In other words, the VAST majority of people are currently watching non-calibrated TVs with the COntrast amped up and the colors completely screwed up because THAT is how it came out of the show...
Ken? Are you there Ken? Thanks for taking my call....I won't take up too much of your time, but I am very confused.
Last month you told me that the PS3's HDMI-less tard-pack was just as good as the $600 version and that it was gonna do everything the other one could too. In fact I seem to recall a lot of heated discussions on internet forums about the relative merits of HDMI for both next-gen gaming and for HD-DVD or Blu-Ray movies at full resolution.
But toda...
If you think it is too much money, then DECIDE not to buy it.
If you think it is valuable and priced properly, then by all means do buy it.
Bottom line is this, Ubisoft could have just as easily kept the mulitplayer maps and co-op play for the invetiable GRAW2 instead of offering the chance to extend the life of a very much loved game...they are giving the gamers a choice and I am all for that.
Now, as to whether or not I personally will drop $15 f...
I believe that the only Blu-Ray available in Japan since 2003 has been the recordable data drives, NOT movies and actual players.
I freely admit that I could be wrong on that, but I don't think so. If Blu_Ray players were already available in Japan, this latest delay would be even MORE astoudning. Why, if you have a working technology available would you delay its release to market at a time when your company is going down by the head in losses on developing the format? Just to...
If Sony were to get a $1000 + unit to market now (as planned) it would be able to build up considerable buzz for Blu-Ray on the backs of the wealthy early-adopter HT crowd. Then when it came time to release PS3 in Novemeber, they could point to the stand alone and say, "look at THAT quality, and you are going to get the plaback funcationality of BD in your PS3.."
No, delaying the release can only mean hardware difficulty, and no matter how you slice that, BD problems...
Next announcement on Blu-Ray = player release delayed until November 17 (or whatever the PS3 release date is), stand alone unit to debut in 2007....
Just kidding really, but it is somewhat odd for Sony to continue to say one thing and do another, definitely a pattern there on recent releases (PSP, PS3, BD players, etc.)
I will resist the urge to mock.
My problem with just about ANY game that has a sequel number higher than 4 is this - they generally lose innovation and start reheatign the same crap in any franchise by the third game. (Personal belief only, I know many will disagree.)
For me, I would ratehr see more new titles than a boatload of high numbered sequels.
Tekken 6?
Ridge Racer 7?
Final Fantasy 13?
YAAAAAWWWWWNNNNN.....

He doesn't come across as a crack-smoking Sony exec in this story (first time in a few weeks that can be said for any of the Sony leaaders).
Of course, if Kaz really believes they are gonna sell 100M PS3's, maybe Stringer just put down the crack pipe for a minute and Kaz snatched it up...
OK, that was a bit fanboy-ish sounding...
Sony has no doubt tied the future of their company to Blu-Ray and if it does not dominate the way DVD did, then nothing ...
Nice link...dunno how accurate that is, but I guess you can see why the franchise that sits at #2,3 and 4 on the top selling PS2 games would be "not important" for PS3....lol.
Whatever, the 3rd party games are almost certain to ALL be multi-platform anyway, so in that light it probably isn't the end of the world to Sony. But then again, they do like to crow about "exclusives", and you know if GTA4 was a PS3-only game, they would never shut up about it...
Well, I disagree about Microsoft "fearing" anything Sony or PS3 related - they are probably far more concerned about life AB (after Bill)....
The bottom line is "winning" in business is not who finishes #1 - it is who is in better health financially to fight another round. The math there is unequivocably in MS's favor. Figure the conservative estimates are that MS loses about $100-$150 per XB360 during the first 2 years on the market and Sony is losing an...
The real surprise would be if they brought that tech to market in a games console now...it is more likely that these transistors won't find their way into production model chips until 2010 or later.
It is good news though to hear they still have a lot of head space on the speed of the silicon transistors though.
I don't know you from Adam, but I sincerely hope your screen name has some other meaning to you than the obvious and sophomoric aliteration of its pronounciation (Sumnatzee = Some Nazi)? I do hope there is some other reason for your name than shock value and poor taste. If that is in anyway true, then you are not very creative and are also very misguided about the most evil regime of the 20th century. Nazi's are not funny, cool or the kind of thing a thoughful person would use in their on...
I love NCAA football and Madden. Easily the two games I have played the most over the past 15 years or so (on every console going back to the days of the Sega Genesis).
Anyone looking for a staight-up no BS game of football this fall should send me a friend request, but please, don't waste my time with BS gameplay and gimmicks. I only want to play serious football and not get into games with guys who want to exploit the AI in unrealistic ways or run the same play 15 times in ...
I have heard these rumors for a long time and I guarantee in the next 24-48 hours you will find an article or news story here from a MS exec. denying this report.
That doesn't mean it won't happen, but it certainly won't be announced now! That would be suicide for sales numbers the rest of the summer as people would simply decide to wait until the announced price drop took effect.
Now, I believe whole heartedly that what is going to happen is this:

The "hardcore" Sony fanboys (you technically can't be called PS3 fanboys until AFTER you own one) don't have an original comment in months.
Too many 360 fans give them the attention they so desperately seek, so that is just getting down to their moronic level. Ignore them, there is no reaching an empty head in the first place.
Bottom line, there is so much negative reaction to almost every Sony story because they are in the middle of writing a new book / B-sch...
BC is a joke....if you have games that you USED to play ona given console, then it stands to reason you also HAD that console at one point. Unless you sold or borke your original console, then just play those games on the original console and be done with it...
I never used my PS2 to play PS1 games and I almost never use my 360 to play XB1 games either.
The only fools (sonyisGod/ssj04/whatever other alias you want) that make it an issue are just lame. You want ...
One word = Crysis.
Go visit the sites and view the screenshots of THAT game and then take the time to relaize it is a PC title - meaning DVD-9 (because to the best of my knowledge no one is programming games for Blu-Ray on anything but the PS3 at the moment.
If a game like Crysis, with THAT level of detail and photorealism can fit on DVD-9 (or truth be told it may even be released on about 8 CD-ROMs...lol), then what exactly is a 20-30 GB game supposed to look li...
OK, you are certainly free to express your opinions on the GAME SYSTEMS relative merits and weaknesses, but who in the hell made this a political discussion forum?
Kindly keep your ignorant Anti-American political ranting to yourself or in a forum that supports those discussions.
As for your list of reasons to buy the PS3, if you want it, buy it. If it suits your needs, get one. Same thing goes for anyone with a 360 or planning to get a Wii. Get the system or ...
Early production units are bug-filled messes.
Reason #1 on why I refuse to buy a launch unit PS3 (there are of course other reasons, but I really do believe the first batch of PS3's is gonna be a massive crap-shoot).
That article is hardly a resounding endorsement of Blu-Ray over HD-DVD...I think the format war is going to be very interestign over the next couple years, that is for sure.
