Seriously ... IGN only rates games this high if they are exploding with innovation. Don't buy the game. It's a fire hazard.

On a more serious note. They talk about it being a top notch technical showcase and put up utterly dull screens. I've seen multi-platform games with better visuals. Almost PS2 quality environment textures, poor shadows (sometimes non-existent), mediocre lighting, etc...

I have to admit I like the art style. Surely an IGN reviewer knows th...

the PS3 (Uncharted 2, Killzone 2) and 360 (lots of games) are both maxed out already.

The difference is that, unlike the 360's CPU, the Cell benefits tremendously from a little bit of optimization. This means that, unlike the 360's CPU, the Cell has a lot of head-room left while the 360 does not.

Uncharted 1 looks better than any game on the 360 (and until Killzone 2) any game on the PS3 and barely touched the Cell. Goal for the sequel: Develop a system to use a...

that this was how it was going to turn out.

I said it before and got a lot of disagrees from idiots but the reality is that the infrastructure is simply not there for something like this to function properly.

It looks not better or worse than one could reasonably expect.

It's running on hardware that was maxed out years ago. It's foolish to continue hoping for miracles.

a growing list of PS3 exclusives demonstrating vast technical superiority, and the Wii (and DS) showing that the casual market is absolutely enormous, one the way one wonders if Microsoft will or even should bother trying to compete for the HD gaming market.

Natal appears to be the 360's last hope to avoid it's predecessors last place finish.

This far into the life-cycle their PS3 graphics should be at least at the level of the original Uncharted game which maxed out the RSX but didn't use the Cell much.

Despite relying on just the PS3's GPU, the original Uncharted game was found, by Digital Foundry, to easily outperform every single multi-console title.

Realistically speaking, we can't expect anything to rival Uncharted 2 but surely, after all these years, we should be seeing more multi-console games mat...

any talk of coming remotely close to Uncharted 2's visuals can be considered plausible. Based on available videos they're not even close.

Perhaps his real goal was to avoid comparison with another shooter ... Killzone 2. That game is so advanced that it even applies lighting nd physics calculations to something as seemingly trivial as the little burning spark-like embers from an explosion. Dust clouds are affected by dynamic events in real time. Killzone 2 has set the technol...

The character models, lighting and shader work are superb, particularly, given how much everything is dynamic and real-time.

Very impressive.

The 360 sells just over 8M/year (slightly better than it's predecessor) and does absolutely nothing that has not already been done before on the previous Xbox or on PCs.

In contrast, the Wii is nearly 20M/year and has revolutionized gaming. It made gaming a true family activity such that parents even buy games for themselves.

The PS2 defined modern 3D gaming standards with it's incredible variety of high quality titles in every genre and it's absolute market dominat...

the punishment has to be proportional to the crime, otherwise people will be getting the death penalty for petty theft. It's also important that legal process is correctly followed and that any punishment or fines come out of the legal process only after a trial and the if the defendant(s) is found guilty.

Microsoft was fined because even before there was a court trial to determine guilt and even if, indeed, a crime was committed, Microsoft was already, in effect, subjecting a p...

this looks worse than some of the 360's first gen games.

Very disappointing.

In America, whether you win or lose is based almost entirely on how much money you have. If I screwed you (fraud or otherwise) yet I can afford a better lawyer than you, you're just gonna get screwed again in court.

Of course, the same is generally true in India as well but because since they see an opportunity to make a rhetorical point they are, for once, correctly applying the law.

just like COD, Metal Gear, or various other brands.

The hardware, on the other hand, apart from being technically outmatched, is just a shoddy excuse for a console.

One of my good friends just RRODd last night. It was less than a year old.

What a piece of junk.

is quite the engineering feat. In fact, the air-flow management system designed into the case is superbly efficient. Top class engineering.

I'm not really a gamer but I might buy a Slim just to geek out on it's design and engineering accomplishments.

I guess you don't play PC games. Unlike consoles, all PC games requires a massive installs! There are no PC games that run directly off a DVD. The reason are 1) that a DVD drive simply cannot pump out enough data 2) Data stored on the hard-drive doesn't have to be as highly compressed so it frees up CPU power.

Hard-drives are much much faster than Blu-Ray or DVD drives and allow much better graphics and even free up CPU to allow better animation, physics etc....

because streaming games like Uncharted 2 require the hard-drive to be onboard and provide fast access times.

If they do switch to some kind of remote storage, they'll need to add a pretty large on-board cache (at least 8GB).

Flash maybe a possibility in the future once the cost and performance are more competitive but flash can degrade faster than a regular hard-drive.

At least for the next few years, regular hard-drives are the way to go.

If KZ2's lighting system uses "the oldest form of graphics computing" then please list games that have used that system before.

BTW, Illuminate labs did not create the real-time lighting system for any of the games they list. Those games have very different real-time lighting systems and are built on a variety of different engines.

In fact, much of it is using in-game and real-time cut-scene assets (models, shaders, etc...) but rendered on a PC to get rid of "jaggies" and script the animation (Halo games have always had PS1-quality animation).

The quality of the lighting is disappointing. Many lights don't actually cast any light at all (just bright colored textures with a targetted blur).

If Halo Reach wants to be taken seriously for it's visuals it needs to do this:
