It’s got mixed-positive reviews across the board from reviewers, not just lefties. It is generic AF and is being punished for it.

The people claiming user scores are more accurate than reviewer scores are special.

Neither type is inherently more accurate than the other, the user scores react to the professional ones, and hype, and the zeitgeist internet view, which is often WAY off the mark.

Reviewers often consider it their job to bring a bunch of concerns into their crit that a non-reviewer wouldn’t. They’re reviewing for different reasons.

At some point generic open world fatigue had to kick in, and in many ways DG is the perfect game for that, - having zombies and being “2000s console game beige.” It gives off a generic vibe even though it’s not bad..

It fine but after all the constant Ubisoft churn it doesn’t surprise me it’s not overwhelmingly positive. It’s not a game for everyone anyway. It’s a bit wonky but 🤷🏻‍♀️ it doesn’t have to be perfect.

Something about DG remind...

So many cinemas are using Sony 4K projectors here and it’s not like you’re aware of pixelation when watching movies on them, and those screens a maaaaasive. I find 8k a bit of a weird, unnecessary thing.. but if it ends up making devs target massively OTT resolutions that can only be advantageous to people with more normal ones. 😅

Well there is that.. tbh I still wouldn’t want to spend that much even if I did have loads of space. 😂

I don’t have a big enough room to put a tv big enough for 8k to be worthwhile, but I’d be happy if future tech supports it well enough!

Definite improvement imo.

I wish they could put a unlockable retro mode where everyone looks like papercraft ps1 graphics again. 😂

I didn’t say I agree with all those points at all. 🤷🏻‍♀️ An authentic translation would be better than a modernised, altered one.

I just said that the original translation is not true to the source material.

I didn’t make a judgement call on the content of this article. People have always had issues with barrat’s translation. This is just a different take on it.

The differences aren’t that difficult to work around. The version in Advent Children played it well without messing things up.

Seriously. Watch the videos. It doesn’t make any political points at all. If you’re so afraid of anything outside your bubble that you won’t even watch videos about inconsistencies in translation.. Kotaku hires a lot of different people. It’s not my fault the video series happens to be hosted by them.

It’s just as much “Social Justice” that got you the original censored translation as anything going on now.

Everyone should really watch this series to see how weirdly different the versions of FF7 are. And see why people are hoping for a Barret more like.. well, Barret.

https://kotaku.com/s/final-...

It’s literally just a long form run down of all the differences in the writing. Not political, nothing to get your pearls in a bunch over. Can learn a lot from it.

FF7’s original English translation is nothing like the Japanese and is censored in multiple places.

People are arguing to have the game MORE like the Japanese version. Japanese Barrett is a stoic hero type, in the US he’s Mr T. 😂 I like both but they’re not arguing for change for change’s sake here.

2455d ago 3 agree22 disagreeView comment

Which is it, “we respect the artistic vision” or not? Because the English FF7 translation absolutely does *not* respect the source material fully and was a total rush job.

Squares English translation was not what the Japanese team would have done at all, it is NOT their vision, as fun as it was. It’s even censored in lots of places! You guys *hate* that. You can’t have it both ways!

Yes! With a direct subtitle translation. PS1 FF7s translation is pretty weird.

2455d ago 4 agree22 disagreeView comment

Not really. If it’s true to the Japanese version it’s good. If it’s and butchered as the original eng translation was? It’s bs.

English sub Barrett has a completely different personality to the Japanese original. It’s not an outrage, they’re reporting on something that was expected, given the history.

2455d ago 10 agree68 disagreeView comment

It’s true though? English translation of Barrett is nothing like the original Japanese version. They purposely amped up his Mr T-ness, in a way that does a disservice to the character.

I didn’t say it like there was a full plan at all. There were loose things Arian was told he could and couldn’t touch, so there was a framework.

It’s just fortuitous that they got who they did to do what he did when they did.

TLJ was a better film than TFA - IF you take out the parts of TFA that aren’t 1:1 replicas of things we’ve already seen done better in ANH. We already have the OT, even Lucas complained about how TFA was a retread.

2456d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

I really liked the execution of TLJ. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I don’t see any problem with divisive entries in big franchises.

I don’t think either TFA or ROS would be anywhere near as good as they are without TLJ in the middle. It added a lot of (unexpected) weight to something that looked like it was going to be a rote retread of the OT.

No, but you definitely give the accusers the benefit of the doubt when they’re credible, pending reasons not to. Otherwise you’re obstructing others from coming forward, which isn’t always easy. Sympathy should always be weighted towards victims, scepticism cuts both ways.

And, well.. they could try dragging me? It’d be a lot harder than someone like Randy who has a reputation for being shitty. “Nothing but an Internet tweet” is false. Randy has a past history of nonsense, ...
