"A rule of thumb we like to use is that [for] every Xbox One available in your living room we’ll have three of those devices in the cloud available," he said.
So does that mean they only plan to sell 100,000 of them? Sorry, bad joke.
It comes across as a realist, not an apologist. Game budgets keep increasing. Sony has shut down game studios. We may have seen a lot of exclusives but how many sell well enough to fund themselves?
What I see time and time again here is this attitude that everything should stay the same. That they shouldn't block used games, that the system should just be about games. Meanwhile they keep talking numbers. High specs, GDDR5 ram, how they are all about gamers. Did they not l...
Must be a touchy subject to have 2 comments attached.
"Sony has been in tight positions monetarily before and always come out swinging hard and doing well. In fact, every Playstation console has had a hard start and a stellar finish."
Is that why they closed some studios, because they finished strong?
"Gamers want to game first and foremost. Apps just get in the way. They are distractions that are performed better on a PC anywa...
Microsoft will be announcing more details in the future about Europe and Asia. Europe will be where they have to really try harder, Japan will never embrace the Xbox unless it becomes a very dominant player like Apple and the portable music device. Japan still supported Sony MP3 players more than any other country until Apple finally got too much marketshare to ignore.
How many games did Sony actually show during the PS4 event? Driveclub, Infamous, Knack, Diablo III which is already out on the PC, Destiny which will also be coming to the Xbox One, The Witness which will also be coming to the PC and likely the Xbox One, Killzone: Shadow Fall, and Watchdogs which will also be on the Xbox One. Did I miss any? That was for 2 hours and most had no gameplay. So tell me, what did they do the rest of the time? Oh yes, they talked. They talked about the controller, ...
"The way things are going, I'm gearing up to get my PC back into gaming shape.
I'm also rooting for the SteamBox, hopefully Valve won't be as stupid as Sony/Microsoft as to restrict something you bought with your own hard-earned money."
You just contradicted yourself. Steam is about DRM since you can't sell Steam games can you? I do agree that the PC platform is a better ecosystem to support. The problem is most of the marketing goe...
@DigitalRaptor,
Actually it's The Wii-U that is looking like a saint right now. They aren't having this cloud of controversy like the upcoming Xbox One and PS4 are. Both Sony and Microsoft have pandered and deflected the used game scenario, not just Microsoft.
Your comments have been biased against the Xbox 360 and Microsoft since the very first day you can go back to your post history (that's 3 years ago!). I guarantee you won't be saying any...
The Wii-U could be the trump card. The Xbox One and the PS4 could do serious damage for used games.
That's ok, I don't have to have my system connected so it shouldn't affect me. Oh wait!
That's not what the article said. It said while Sony is trying to correct issues like long load times they didn't really show anything revolutionary. It's the emperors new clothes. More of the same. They also showed a real lack of new ip's plus they too are not being fully revealing about DRM and used games.
Microsoft had a bad event and they are making used games a sticking point as well.
The Wii U is failing to get consumer interest and 3rd ...
It still won't sell but the Xbox will have something far more important, Japanese developer support just like the Xbox 360 did. The original Xbox paled in comparison.
Oh, but they do care. Look in the forums, people can't stop talking about it.
From the article:
"They said they weren’t doing X, but people keep asking why they didn’t show X. It’s an endless circle where Microsoft keeps losing. They even stated clearly, twice, that the big gaming stuff the hardcore was asking for would come in 19 days (now 17, but you get the idea). People are giving Sony the benefit of the doubt despite the fact that they unveiled just as l...
"What are you lot on about? It's a brand new console with its games yet to be revealed. Why not wait?"
Because each day the sky must fall. There has to be something we can attack every day. Whether it's the new Tomb Raider game not being the same as the old ones or Microsoft not showing many games even though they said that's what E3 will be for. We're going to have to wait anyways. It's not like you can buy a PS4 by the time E3 comes. Everyone i...
It's the adults who care more about the TV features and the fantasy sports leagues than kids do.
They did treat gamers terribly in the beginning, because there were hardly any games. The ones people wanted got delayed time after time. It took until MGS4 came out before people started to get excited about its game library. Until then they also had a online infrastructure that was a work in progress and PS3 owners were treated to worse ports than a cheaper and older console because of their insistence on having something different and once again made life difficult more than they had to fo...
I unlike many here, will wait for E3. People on the Internet are always acting like the sky is falling. So many people can't keep their emotions in check. Way too much drama. We keep hearing people claim they don't have games even though they said time and again they will show us at E3.
Why is everyone always so eager to declare a winner and a loser every year? If after E3 they prove they are not interested in pushing gaming then I'll join the others calling doom...
Sony is letting Microsoft try and answer questions while they remain silent. Adam Sessler just had an hour long discussion about the new Xbox and many times he reiterated about how Sony never did answer the questions about used games properly. Sony could very well indeed lock games. Some PSN games already have DRM. Sony also adopted online passes which require a fee to unlock. They've also been sued over the rootkit scandal in their BMG music department.
If people here do...
Adam Sessler just had an hour long Google chat and this guy is on the inside, you're just some random person who rarely if ever criticizes Sony for anything. During that hour he mentioned several times Sony did not answer the questions about the used games. The only difference here is Microsoft has been a bit more forthcoming on it.
This is nothing but damage control. You see, someone like Adam Sessler isn't biased. He will view the PS4 and Xbox One from an unbiased p...
Microsoft dropped the ball on indies, especially when you have someone like Tim Schafer (one of the most likeable people around) saying boo.
Sony should keep advertising how well they work with them.
What's sad is it looks like Microsoft is treating indies like they do with big franchises, wanting to only support indie games they think can sell well. That's not the attitude that will help them.
It does sound very interesting. It's like using the cloud to buffer your game and to offload some of the demands.
People used to take advantage of some games that could be installed to the hard drive, this seems to take it quite a few steps further.
It's obvious most people on this site don't care and would rather center around the restrictions instead like always on and the used games but it is interesting to see why perhaps they wanted to go thi...
