I don't see New Super Mario Bros. 2 coming out 9 months after Super Mario 3D Land as a problem. One is a 3D game, while the other is the traditional 2D design. Besides, didn't Super Mario Galaxy 2 and New Super Mario Bros. Wii come out the same year?

I would think that keeping graphics "up to par" on the WiiU would be the easy task. On the other hand, working with a new control interface is going to be challenging.
You said it yourself, they're going to have to avoid that "gimmicky feel" and win over the loyalist that are already comfortable with the standard controls.
Regardless, saying that the controller and graphics are irrelevant doesn't leave us with much of a game does ...

It would be console suicide not to sell WiiU pads separately. Nintendo has relied on the local multiplayer experience for decades, and that is not about to change because of a rumor.

I fell in love all over again with the New Super Mario Bros. series. Infact the only complaints that I do hear about the game are unfair ones. These folks always resort to using relative terms that are impossible to be measured, such as: "soulles", "charmless" etc..
