After all of the doom articles about the: Wii, DS, and 3DS who could blame Iwata for saying this. It's not just Nintendo, there is plenty of hate to go around, just ask the fans of the PSVita.

I really do not believe that this is a matter of uniqueness. Sony and Microsoft have both embraced the idea of the 2nd screen, in their own way.
Most of the pessimism that I have heard seems to be based off of Nintendo launching first. The Nintendo Wii was significantly weaker than the PS3 and 360, therefore, some people assume the WiiU to merely be an upgrade to the underpowered Wii and not it's HD competitors.

Oh ok, so every time a 3rd party dev compliments a Nintendo console they are doing this strictly to sell games? How foolish! These are 3rd party devs, and they do not work for Nintendo. They sell software on other platforms too!

It's not the actual smear campaigns that bothers me. They have mostly been anonymous, so who cares.
What bothers me the most is that SOME people seem to really believe this nonsense, despite what reputable 3rd party devs have said.
They are so convinced that their "phantom" consoles are going to blow a next gen console out of the water. They are convinced not because of specs (none have been released!), but simply because the WiiU wears the Nint...
