I'm glad but at the same time confused as well, i'll be busy looking at the both screens, which should i watch? both have different beautiful presentations.
I already have 3DS, but i'll buy PS4 as a main system for playing DQXI just to avoid confusion while playing. But....definitely maybe i'll buy the 3DS version too...

While my expectation came true (DQXI on PS4), and my beyond expectation(DQXI on 3DS). Continue your fanboysm, i hope i have time to enjoy both version...
Historically, you are somewhat right. But not completely right. When Sony dominated the market, DQ series followed them, remember VII & VIII?.
DQ has good history with Nintendo. But Wii U's sales performance making the chance XI appear on PS4 is quite high.

There is some small indie companies on kickstarter now with great ideas being overshadowed because of this supposed behemoth that is Shenmue 3.

It's ok buddy, not everyone's taste are the same. Same goes for me, i'm not interested in Yooka.
So basically,
1. E3 isn't meant to annoounce a kickstart project.
2. Big Studio shouldn't do kickstarter
Preach all you want, not only i disagree to the 2 statements above. The most important thing is finally i'll be able to play Shenmue III.
I want to hear of Yakuza spin-off series + 0 to the west
How i want Shenmue I & II HD and Skies Of Arcadia HD.
It's not what machine is more advanced, it's what the developer's choice as a main system.
The consoles will do just fine because many developers still treat them as main system.
For PC, the games will perform better. But unfortunately many great games will stay exclusive on consoles...
The history said Nintendo (Wii U) is gonna be the platform. But the trend in Square Enix shows it will come to PS4 most probably. But (again) DQ series in Japan is so popular that i think the people will buy it regardless the platform.
So, the chance for Wii U and PS4 is fifty-fifty...
DQ + PS4 = go with the flow
DQ + Wii U = drive the flow
1. Mediocre graphic (some say it's bad, except Level 5 being the dev)
2. Repeated musics
3. Similar (if not the same) NPC designs
4. Monotone level designs
But deep inside, it's a very delicious RPG!.
Mainstream J-RPG gamers are difficult to "understand" how charming this series is and what the creators wanted to tell.

If Nintendo can't keep up with competitors, i don't mind they keep making console that one generation behind technologically, but make it under US$300 at launch. With that they can always secure being number 2 if not 1.
Graphics, music, gameplay, many great games achieved those aspects, but Uncharted series is above them (espescially 2) because they include "unforgettable moments" aspect in almost every level...
I'm grateful that they don't make this game fps (first person shooter i mean...)
Too bad...PS3 is still a decent hardware for J-RPG.
Maybe this is a new policy by SE. They seem confident enough that they can drive people to upgrade from PS3 to PS4. They want to make sure when FFXV is ready to launch, the amount of PS4 owners are significant enough to secure sale prediction.
Just like Naughty Dog, they evolved.
To be honest, this is a win for FF7 and Shenmue fans. I tell you MS Fanboy, FF7 & Shenmue announcements are wet dream to the fans, something we're even scared of hoping for, yet they were announced.
As i watched the conference, i am as one of a FF7 & Shenmue fans, do not care about exclusivity, timed exclusivity, or multiplatform. I just happy that 2 games are being developed.
