They could do some pretty interesting things with the Pokemon ones though. Like, maybe if you buy a Charizard Amiibo it has the max possible stats that a Charizard can have, and maybe you can even select what type of special ability it has.
Or, what could be neat, is if you have an Amiibo of a Pokemon you get an increased chance to find a shiny version of whatever evolution of the Pokemon is available in the Pokemon game you are playing.
I'm sure there ar...
This is a great idea, but I'm still not 100% sure what the main functionality of these are. For instance, they used Smash Bros. as an example. Does that mean if there is an Amiibo figurine of a character not in the newest Smash Bros. that by using an Ammibo you will get a completely new character for the game?
It's not that I doubt the strategy, in fact I think it's very smart and if handled well could be a huge source of income - I would just like more concrete d...
I feel like one of the issues is how many games are crossover between the Vita and PS3/PS4. As an owner of all three consoles I love it, it's a great value. But it means a lot of games that might have helped sell Vita's were also on consoles, so there isn't really a need to get a Vita.
Granted, it's hard to make exclusive games for a struggling console when it's not difficult to also put it on a PS3/PS4 for extra sales.
Sony has failed with the Vita, and here is why.
Nintendo uses a lot of the same decades old franchises on their handheld consoles as they do on home consoles. They are able to put huge franchises like Mario, Donkey Kong and Zelda on their handhelds easily. It's a beautiful, synergistic strategy. Plus, relative to most modern games, it costs a lot less to make those types of games than what Sony has tried.
With Sony, each generation they have for the most ...
People are so sensitive these days.
I don't think that's entirely accurate. Basically everyone was calling Titanfall a blockbuster months before it released.
A blockbuster title is something that has a large development budget as well as a large marketing budget. Sure, there may sometimes be commercial flops; but generally speaking we know a blockbuster when we see it.
Halo and Forza are blockbusters. Sunset Overdrive is kind of on the fence, but if Microsoft pushes it like I think they...
Pretty comical PR Xbox! Look, Ori looks fantastic, but it doesn't even come close to being a blockbuster. Dance Central Spotlight? Killer Instinct Season 2?
Fable Legends BETA???
So basically every exclusive game, even if it's just a beta, is a blockbuster for the Xbox One. Got it.
Good stuff :)
Ummm...I think you are misunderstanding pretty obvious things. On PS4, Free to Play games are free - they don't require any money or even a PlayStation Plus account. There isn't anything misleading there.
As to microtransactions, you cannot have a F2P game without microtransactions (unless it is monetized by tons of adds, which isn't the type of thing you see on consoles thank God).
The entire premise of this article is flawed.
I feel pretty confident Mario Kart 8 won't sell more copies than Mario Kart 7, which is a shame because 8 might be the best in the series.
I did specify home consoles...
You must not be very familiar with the Japanese culture. It's pretty commonplace to have a character who's gender is ambiguous or assumed to be one way only for it to be the other.
In fact, in Ocarina of Time Sheik is present as a boy and later we learn it's Princess Zelda. So they have literally done the whole "gender bait and switch" that you say is impossible...
No, because they didn't appeal to anyone not already interested or already invested in the console. The Wii U announced some great Nintendo games, but it already has great Nintendo games. As sad as it is, great Nintendo games simply aren't enough to sell a home console in today's market - that's not me trying to be disparaging on Nintendo, just honest.
This game looks really great! I'm sad I won't get to play it.
It's hard not to roll my eyes at anybody that has this opinion. Microsoft didn't announce that many new games, especially that we weren't expecting. I mean, Phantom Dust may be great but I owned an original Xbox and I've never heard of that game.
That's not to say that Sony's press conference was markedly better. I think both were good. Here's how I look at these types of things.
Did the conference/announcements make people who wer...
A game like that isn't eligible for GOTY.
My GOTY so far is DanganRonpa, but we all know that won't win.
I think Sunset Overdrive will be the main GOTY winner, with Dark Sous 2 winning some too.
Who exactly did Sony alienate? Gamers? I mean, if an hour of nothing but games wasn't enough then I think nothing is. The 20ish minutes of "non-gaming stuff" included:
PS TV. Which, ahem, plays games. In fact, I'd argue that gaming is by far it's main function. I don't know what all functions/apps it will have when it launched, but if Sony is able to make it competitive with devices like Amazon TV and Roku (honestly doubt it sadly) then for $99 that&...
"I think you're dead wrong about Wii U. I've been shifting around various game related websites like NeoGAF and Gamefaqs and there's a ton of enthusiasm for Nintendo this time around."
Two sites that are for gaming enthusiasts. Nintendo has two audiences, both of which are shrinking: core Nintendo fans and younger gamers.
Basically, there are people who are always interested in Zelda, Smash Bros. and the like. They either have a Wii U (l...
Well, for one because these are all on the Xbox One.
Two, because it's a seamless experience that not only lets you play al four games, but you can select options such as playing every vehicle section in a row or play the entire Arbiter section in one go.
Three, every multipayer map from the four numbered Halo's is being offered at once. If you select Team Slayer every Team Slayer map is an option to play.
And Four, because it would s...
