Hi, I'm the author of the article.
Not only have I heard of Demon's Souls, but I played it multiple times. I'll even one-up you. Demon's Souls wasn't the first game in the franchise. It was a spiritual sequel to the King's Field games. Of which there are four.
Have you played those?
And yet Dark Souls takes place in a completely different mythology to Demon's Souls. The implication of Dark Souls 2 is that it will take place in the same mythology.
It was a master stroke of genius From Software had going on by naming each Souls game differently and essentially creating a new mythology with each. I certainly hope this is the case with Dark Souls 2, but the name implies otherwise.
You are right about Final Fantasy being different each ti...
While I don't like criticising a journalist for writing an opinion piece, I have no idea what this dude was smoking when he played this game.
Ni No Kuni is awesome. It has flaws, but it took me about a minute to forget those ever existed.
@valleytime - you're going to have to explain that further, because it's confusing me as it is - sorry.
From what I understand of your point - there is no false interactivity if the player is the one creating the story. That's interactivity by the very definition of the word.
Writing a book doesn't suddenly become a falsely interactive process because the author has to use paper and a pen/ keyboard/ typewriter. The tools/ mechanics of games l...
@Overlord - the article mentions just two examples of it actually happening - Minecraft and Dear Esther. Two games that are completely interactive and non-linear, and these were two games made by teams 1/1000th the size of the team that made, say, Assassin's Creed 3.
There are ways to tell stories without telling a story - you get the player to make the story.
The whole "it's not possible at the moment," is an excuse, nothing more. It is p...
You're right that it doesn't stop a game from being entertaining, any more than a Michael Bay movie is stopped from being fun because it is brain dead.
However, games can be far more than just fun, and I would like to see developers aiming to take advantage of the interactivity that games are capable of, and stop trying to copy the film industry.
Games have a long way to go before they will fully realise their potential.
I don't see any proof that the author is in any way qualified to comment on the Vita's market viability in 2013 and beyond?
All I see is a discussion about the games being released next year. That's fine. But to make a judgement about whether the console has a future on the market you would need to be a market analyst.
Nothing about that website convinces me that the author is a market analyst.
1) Any sane person knew this years ago. It's not news, and the topic is so old that it's not even interesting.
2) If gamers actually cared about games journalism stuff like this wouldn't be at top of N4G. A proper story would be.
But because gamers like to bitch and moan about "bad journalism" but then go and click on the articles they're complaining about, stuff like this gets lots of traffic, thus encouraging more bad journal...
I love how people bitch and moan about the quality of games journalism, but when an article turns up with a horrifically sensationalist headline (like this one), everyone suddenly excuses the bad journalism because it lets them launch into some fanboyism (on both sides).
Bad journalism extends beyond Doritos photos.
Hah. I'm having the same problem. With most fighting games I've got my favourite picked within the first hour, but with this game? There's at least five or six I really like.
At the moment I'm leaning towards Sir Daniel. He's just a whole lot of fun.
Whoops, you are of course entirely right. I blame Monday blues for that mistake :P
I've updated the story to reflect the fact that Fitch now has indeed rated Sony as junk. Thank you for that clarification.
I echo your comments in the last paragraph too: this is not an appropriate story for fanboy gloating.
Could I please see a scanned copy of your PHD in medicine (psychology)?
Nah, of course not. You're just a kid. Even science has armchair experts now.
I took your post for what it is: an offensively cynical assumption about a man who is clearly not in a good place.
You're not qualified to pass any kind of judgement on Molyneux or his mental condition. Fact.
A drama queen who has done more for the games industry than some nerd on N4G will ever achieve.
Uh, dear whoever wrote this - you do realise that the game has already been finished, right? It's not going to get any better or worse than what you've seen.
So writing an open letter to the developers is a little late.
Also, referring to a game in personal terms (so, "all you need to do is be good") is very poor, imprecise, journalism. Games aren't people.
lolwhat?
White Knight Chronicles
White Knight Chronicles 2
Ni No Kuni
3 different Inazuma games on Wii
3 JRPGs and 3 other games in a single generation is a hell of an output for a team of 200 people. Especially since on the PS2 they only published five games.
Well, going from your logic, Games on the Wii U look better than games on the Wii.
Is there a reason that you're comparing the Sony and Xbox consoles to previous generation Sony and Xbox consoles, but with the Wii U, you're comparing it to, not a Nintendo console, but Sony and Microsoft consoles.
Funny, I managed to log in over 100 hours on the PS3 version of Skyrim.
Unplayable indeed!
Of course what you mean is that it is unplayable in your infinite wisdom's opinion, but naturally a random dude on the Internet is the one speaking absolute truths while the paid critics are the biased ones.
Very good. Angry gamer logic at its finest.
Or here's an idea. Instead of acting like a review is somehow wrong or biased if it disagrees with your opinion (because your opinion is clearly the right one), you just find a critic who you agree with and read their reviews.
It amazes me how many people have such a childish response to game reviews. Almost all critics call the shots as they see them. Guess what? They're not biased they just have different taste in games to you.
Wow. Mind blowing s...
Really. All that violence and you take a crack at a low impact sex scene.
Congratulations for contributing to the ruination of society.
