Hahaha, I like how sypher is going on about other people spouting nonsense and yet manages to do so himself.

No, not every industry is suffering. In fact, even narrowing it down to various hobbies, not every hobby industry is suffering.

Do a bit of research next time before making assumptions ^_^

Wake of the Ravager in there?

No?

Poor list.

You'll get more and better quality games as publishers don't have to compete with their own games.

Pretty sure the guys are talking about it being the best in application, here.

The Vita is doing good business for some organisations. Such as this one. That and they like playing their Vitas.

Did.... some random website just act like it knows more about stuff than the Wall Street Journal.

Gotta love games journalism. Never knows its place.

4751d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

Holy crap. This is a direct, word-for-word copy and paste of the press release that EA issued today.

Can I just point out that copy and pasting PR releases is the very definition of bad journalism.

Just thought everyone has a right to know this.

Saying not many people know what Ghibli is is like saying not many people know what Disney is.

Studio Ghibli is massively popular throughout the world. It's won Academy Awards.

I do hope you're joking regarding your question about the quality of the Wall Street Journal.

I really, truly, hope you're joking :-/

"Trojan Horse of the JRPG genre"

Love it. Brilliant visual image.

4756d ago 4 agree0 disagreeView comment

Yes, we're pretty much agreeing with one another, lol.

SMT, GUST's RPGs, Nippon Ichi - the guys have kept the JRPG genre alive for fans of the genre in recent years.

Ni No Kuni is the first JRPG in years to have a chance of finding new JRPG fans. It's just a scale difference.

1UP guy is still wrong for not understanding that :P

4756d ago 17 agree0 disagreeView comment

If you surveyed 10,000 people and asked them if they had heard of SMT, and then asked them if they had heard of Ni No Kuni, I can guarantee you more would have heard of Ni No Kuni.

That's not to say that the SMT games aren't great, because they are. But they are very low-scale releases, and there for the fans, not the masses.

Ni No Kuni is getting mainstream press coverage. JRPGs very rarely achieve that now, and that's why Ni No Kuni is importa...

Ni No Kuni is clearly the saviour of JRPGs.

Not because it's a great game (it is a great game, but that isn't the point). I haven't seen so much mainstream interest in a JRPG since Final Fantasy was a big important thing.

Ni No Kuni put JRPGs back on the map and made people look away from generic-COD-clone-version-2 for the first time in years.

How is that anything but a "saviour"?

Based on the responses to the interview it seems unlikely that the Ar tonelico series will continue.

Besides, it would be awesome if GUST took a crack at doing something different and kicking off a new franchise. :D

4758d ago 2 agree0 disagreeView comment

Well, GUST is owned by Tecmo Koei, and very popular in Japan, so it should be fine, and NIS does a lot of publishing which helps keep it very profitable.

With all the crazy crossovers we get these days perhaps one day we'll see an GUST X Disgaea crossover.

That would be epic ;-)

4758d ago 3 agree1 disagreeView comment

I agree with you. GUST games get routinely slaughtered in the mainstream game press for completely illogical reasons. Reality is that they are really quite good games.

I recommend you play the Atelier games before Ar Tonelico though. They're much better games (though Ar Tonelico is good fun as well!)

@bicfitness but what you're saying there largely fits in with the line of argument in my piece.

If next gen is about refinement, then Sony and Microsoft don't need to go about promoting the next consoles as the most powerful things ever (like they did at the start of the PS3/ Xbox 360 era), would they? The marketing line, rather than being about specs, should be about the experience that these consoles can offer.

Game development in the big-budget c...

Hi Intentions,

Could you please read the piece again. I discuss that exact point. It's quite a dense piece, it's over 1,000 words.

But in short, if games keep getting bigger and more epic it's going to destroy the industry. Developers can't afford to develop these "bigger" games that you're talking about.

Thanks!

lol. Do people at N4G ever stop and think that a knee-jerk of a reaction over a headline, and failing to read the 1000+ words that follow after that headline, might call them out as, well, saying something rather irrelevant?

4764d ago 1 agree1 disagreeView comment

Oh yes, that's a great idea. Lovecraftian photo tour, haha!

Seriously, it would be awesome if they could bring those two franchises together. Two of my favourite horror games of all time.

I wonder how much of ED Nintendo actually has the rights to though. Silicon Knights is a legal mind-f*** at the moment :-/
