If you understand the basics of the technologies, this is exactly the result you would expect. SSD's will saturate either a USB 3.0/3.1@5Gbps(max theoretical) or SATA2 @3Gbps(Max theoretical) You will only truly see benefit for SSD capability when it is connected to an M.2 connection. SSD's are by nature RAM, meaning it takes the same time to access data irrespective of it's location in the chip(not 100% true, but near enough). Mechanical HDD's are not.The time to access the d...
so true.
Video is funny, but I'm not sure it isn't supposed to be super ironic?
'This isn't limited to console.' But doesn't the games overall popularity count? Idk, that was my thinking.
From dual-shockers article:
EA thinks first and foremost about “engagement” in its games: if they can keep people engaged in something they love, they can find ways to “improve their experience and monetize that along the way.” According to Jorgensen, the consumer “doesn’t mind that” - Would Mr Jorgensen, care to supply us with the evidence that the consumer doesn't mind that.
EA, doesn't have any excuses for their actions other than, the 'because we can' ph...
It's a fact MT's exist in Battlefront II. For me, that's my objection. Don't care if it takes 20 or 200 hrs to unlock. MT's should not be in full fledged AAA games that people pay hard earned cash for, imo. And, I still disagree with the notion that gaming costs have risen significantly. It's down to companies, wasting money, employing far too many staff, and being prepared to stop productions or abandon them knowing they can make gamers pay for their incompetence.
Agreed, but it's not out on console, yet.
I honestly don't know what the true figures are. Still, there seems to be enough concern, from enough people, that we should get to the bottom of it. Besides, isn't the fact you can avoid this grinding by just purchasing stuff part of the problem? Seems common sense that if you want people to buy loot crates rather than grind, you are gonna make that grind substantial. Also, you wouldn't wish to deter players early on, you would want them hooked first. So it would be later in the ...
The best anyone can be expected to do is look at the evidence for themselves, consider all sides, and come to a rational conclusion. The fact you are prepared to do that is commendable, whatever your view is.
I take your point. As a cross section of society, gamers have a proportion of people who maybe aren't that reasonable. But I don't think we, as a group, are any worse than other groups. Obviously, nobody approves of death threats, personally, I wouldn't tolerate strong personal abuse, just for making a point. And I know celebrities have in the past suffered terrible abuse on social media, but has it actually turned out to be any worse than the paparazzi. It's important we cont...
I don't think the industry will be keen on this kind of service. Imagine all the effort to inflict MT's on us only for gamers to bypass it. Sounds like an awesome service.
Armchair developers, that's funny. We didn't ruin this game EA, you did. You managed to cock it up, all on your own, with your real developers.
I have, respectfully, added my down vote. Great gaming, opinionated.
I'm not angry at Mat for his views, though I don't think his comments helpful. I'm disappointed, (anger is such a waste of time.) with EA, for leading the gaming industry down a path most gamer's don't want to go. There are always some that think personal attacks on forums or at the extreme, death threats, are okay. They are never okay. Doesn't matter if you are a simple gamer or a well known developer, same rules apply.
@OB1Biker
Sorry OB1Biker, I just don't get your point. People who make death threats on the internet may, or may not be mentally deranged. Either way, they are not people who will ever influence my POV. As with terrorists, their intention is to use fear. I'm sure Sean, the developer at EA, won't succumb to this. My choice, is to ignore those who would try to restrict my freedoms. I condemn anyone who would threaten any individual for any reason. Personal attacks against i...
jronj,
If you find that this game does encourage players to spend real money in a way that's unethical, I'm sure you will let us know. Enjoy your game.
No individual needs take my stance on MT's. My point, is this is journalism. I'm sure you wouldn't deny there has been a backlash from fans regarding MT's in this game. For a journalist to ignore those concerns in his appraisal of the game seems rather odd to me, don't you think? Almost like he has an incentive not to mention them. If you choose to purchase, and you find that you can ignore the MT's, I'm happy for you. And hope you enjoy the game. I'm not in co...
I would like to thank the reviewer for including the P2W elements in his review, but more so, for reflecting them in his final score. Would you believe some reviews are ignoring MT's completely. Like them or not, ignoring them is poor journalism.
They are good numbers, no doubt. But I didn't buy mine to increase the numbers sold or to make MS more money. With the knowledge that it's selling well, I want MS to honour their pledge to build better support for games.
Read: We know we have been caught out, but we just want to placate you guys, so this all goes away before it effects our bottom line. EA, we know business is about making money, but there's nothing wrong with trying to do that ethically. I honestly wouldn't take your game with any kind of MT's, because those tactics have consequences for some people. I don't wanna be a part of this.
