That has proven true so far, and means that indeed the PS3 will win the current gen war, but probably 4 years after Nintendo goes next gen, and 2 years after XBOX the 3rd and PS4 are out on the shelves.

One big thing changed since the launch of the PS3.
it's called core 2 duo. Notice that since the PS3 launched Apple dropped the power pc chip (yep, same architecture as the cell chip but with more instruction sets) in favor of the C2D.
One sure bet is that Sony (and MS) are probably looking at intel for their next gen chip.
actually, they probably make more money off licensing games than they do on consoles, so if you want to help Sony, buy PS3 games (licensing ps2 and psp games is way cheaper for developers, so less money for Sony)
Optionally, buy BD movies too, while they probably don't get royalty from movie sales (except those from Sony studios) this gives them nice numbers to go with their HD format.
What Sony (and Bluray) needs now is a severe price cut, hand people blue ray drive...

With the massive financial resources available to the dev team, you can bet they will provide a product free from obvious glitches.
Of a team of probably 80 or so playtesters, there can be a bad apple that stole a beta build at some point.
Beta builds for XBOX360 come in the form of a standard DVD ROM and don't have the same security features a retail 360 disc has, hence the modded xbox needed.

Only the PS3 is made in Japan, the hefty price tag is just the 3000$ increase in average wages to factory workers.
I never buy something with proprietary connectors, that blows. The only thing I have that uses one is a Nintendo DS but cheap bootleg AC/DC converters are available for less than 10$ so it's not too bad.
At work we use a lot of digital cameras, a Sony has a proprietary connector and a Kodak as well, different of course from the Sony. We have to look all around the place for their cables, while all the Canons and Fujis have standard mini-usb.
