It has been heavily overshadowed at this point by Yooka-Laylee as well, lengthy production not helping. It sounds like the release won't be in the first half of 2017 though, so A Hat in Time may end up being a good Fall/Holiday platforming fix. I personally keep forgetting about this one because I didn't have the opportunity to back it, but I'm somewhat glad I didn't because I would have been incredibly disappointed by the long development cycle at this point.
Most anything with Dragon Quest in the title tends to be underrated. It's a curse of the name in the west. I guess Dragon Warrior just didn't gain enough of a long term following back in the day. This title in particular was at huge risk of being written off as a Minecraft clone despite doing a lot to differentiate itself, but I'm glad they brought it over and that I was able to grab my copy day one.
So they basically followed after World of Warcraft experienced success when Blizzard introduced leveling potions to quickly get characters ready for the latest expansion. Not a terrible idea, and if it can remove some of the grind, I don't see much of an issue. I do think that experiencing one character to max level once could be a good requirement though, as even if the argument is made that it will mostly be experienced MMORPG players using these leveling potions, it doesn't change ...
The battles are as fast as any MMORPG, and the running is slow because they're underwater in this gameplay segment. I find the use of traditional Dragon Quest menus a fairly smart choice for combat too. It keeps the HUD clean when it tends to be anything but in your standard MMORPG.
Good old sloooooow DQ localizing.
If I had to rate the big three this year:
Sony gets an 8.5/10 for a healthy number of good games released, as well as PS VR and the PS4 Slim launching right. Their only big trip up really was the somewhat underwhelming Pro announcement, and the lack of overall clarity relating to its place in the existing market.
Microsoft gets a 4/10 for a lacking release schedule more than anything else. The Slim was a good move, and although I have mixed feelings about...
Knights of the Old Republic was amazing, is amazing, and I still really want a true sequel to KOTOR 2. By true sequel, I don't even mean it needs to necessarily follow the story of the first two games. Just don't be another MMO.
That sales impact will be beautiful. Even with the 3DS version, I expect high sales and lots of PS4s sold for DQXI.
I would like to imagine you actually played the game based on your rather apt description of the somewhat broken leveling mechanic in FFXV (at level 20, I just had one hell of a fight against a group of level 11 enemies), though it's understandable that growth is mostly facilitated through AP skills.
That said, you have a strange misunderstanding of MP and magic in FFXV. The lore of the game states that magical abilities are possessed exclusively by royalty and may be l...
Just about every handheld in existence looks like a "Switch" if this does. A screen with controls on either side of it isn't exactly a new design.
Uncharted 3, to me, was the low point in the Uncharted series. A lackluster story, kind of plain environments, and an adventure that, although exciting, didn't feel well balanced. It probably doesn't help that it is now sandwiched between two of the best action/adventure titles I've ever played, being thoroughly eclipsed by both Uncharted 2 and 4. Then we got The Last of Us that managed to put together a captivating story with fun yet difficult gameplay that yielded one of the bes...
Why were you expecting so much from Crash Bandicoot? The fact that they used the word "remaster" when the games were announced should have been a pretty big hint that a much prettier version of the same PS1 games was what we would be getting. Lo and behold, the trailer was the same PS1 games but much prettier. This is essentially testing the waters to see if Crash Bandicoot can still be relevant in 2017 after Activision effectively killed the series. If you want a more ambitious ret...
Woohoo! Hopefully this version has proper PC functionality too. The original port was bare minimum lazy and required mods just to look even half decent and give graphics options. All I'm asking is for PC options that reflect the game was put on a PC to begin with, and I'll be happy. That and the free upgrade is still pretty sweet.
I have a physical deluxe edition coming in the mail. Can't wait for it to show up, though, a shame it's showing up around the start of the week. Won't have much time to play it before the weekend.
You severely overstate how big of a deal mod support actually is. It doesn't matter on consoles because too few games support the functionality for it to matter. This doesn't even begin to touch on the fact that anyone really into modding picked up a capable PC ages ago. Like the 4K drive, this is something that doesn't appeal to enough people to actually have a measurable impact.
The game runs like ass on the PC too. The fact that they have 720p and nearly 60 FPS shows a hell of a lot more work went into optimizing this version of the game than the PC version.
The space fighting is alright. I don't love it and I don't hate it. I think it kind of hurts the pace in some missions due to rudimentary controls and overall combat ability, and flying around in circles locking onto one enemy at a time while your teammates are more useless than usual isn't the most exciting. As a whole, I think the campaign story itself is pretty good, but the actual gameplay execution leaves a lot to be desired. The guns feel less diverse than ever, and combat i...
I've played both Diablo 2 and 3, and Diablo 2 was definitely a better game. It just had the feel down better, more exciting classes, and the content was fun to replay with class and equipment builds feeling varied enough without being too numerous to really make the character you wanted. Interactivity was easy, and cooperative experiences were highly encouraged through a very easy to use system of session making. Very little of this found its way to Diablo 3.
Diablo 3 i...
My only complaint with Kingdom Hearts was the differing quality of releases across too many platforms. At one point the story was spread out across the PS2, GBA (to PS2), PSP, DS, and 3DS, with the handheld titles differing from top notch to bottom of the barrel. Thankfully SE has been working to rectify this by now totally consolidating the story on the PS4 and turning the flimsiest titles into cinematic experiences.
I will admit, I want KH3. I want it bad. As one of my fa...
Nintendo doesn't like to do price drops. Games have to enter the Selects collection, and the systems need to be successful enough for a new version to lower prices on the old version. If the Wii U mimics the Gamecube any further, the system will drop to about $50 within a couple of years anyways. Personally I was waiting for it to hit around $150 new before buying, but Nintendo prefers higher profits on less units sold.
