You don't just get to "iPhone status" by "being a PlayStation". Something had to lead it there and that something is the knowledge of games. Whether new IPs or otherwise.
So, it shortchanges the brand to claim it simply sells "because it's PlayStation".
Even the Wii is questionable. Had the PS3 launched as competitive as the PS4/PS2, the gen would have been very different. Until proven otherwise, when Sony comes out like they have this gen (and gens prior), no one beats them.
100% agree on SEGA! That company actually knew how to compete while bringing many original, and exclusive, IPs!
Microsoft would have been mandhandled, regardless. I think initial sales would have been closer, yes, but as the gen continued forward, you would have seen the gap widening as it is now. Xbox simply doesn't have the global appeal of PlayStation. It's not even close, in fact.
It would be nice if Xbox could download faster, had something similar to PlayShare, didn't have a cumbersome, backwards-steppin' UI, and had more exclusive games. But alas, no dice. Last thing people like you should ever do is point fingers, because you will surely be put in your place. If PSN's name change was a big deal for most people, they haven't made that too apparent, as they're still buying PlayStations in droves (droves the Xbox One won't ever see).

@Damthatsword: As good as Death Stranding looks, it does NOT look “way better” than The Last Of Us Part II.
You obviously didn’t read what Sony said, instead choosing to look to bitch about Sony fans in a topic about Sony.
Genius. /s
It’s Gamingbolt. Nothing to see here.
You should be concerned with what other companies should be working on. Like new, truly exclusive games, for example.
OT: This is one of many reasons I stick with PlayStation. Single-player and multiplayer games for as many people as they can reach!
@darth: I don't need you, of all people, to tell me anything about PlayStation or what's "running on the Pro".
@_-EDMIX-_: Of course it's debatable, but then, I never argued that it wasn't.
Besides The Last Of Us Part II, which was also running on the Pro!
Err... actual fans of PlayStation would.
OT: Fantastic! Can't wait to get back to this IP!
Expecting anything reasonable out of him is a waste of time. Do like most of us and ignore his posts.
OT: Massive year for PS4 and things are only going to get better in 2018. Sony struck it out of the park with this console!
The only despair is in your comment. Glad to see you aren't trying to continue running with it, though. :)
That has been since revised. It's Sony trademarked and the DECIMA Engine (Killzone: Shadowfall, Until Dawn, Horiozon: Zero Dawn) belongs to them as well.
It's remaining exclusive to PlayStation.
Yeah, people need to give up the excitement for a PC version. Sony's engine AND IP. Not happening.
OT: Hloy crap! Looks glorious!

Based on nothing but your imagination. They've yet to hit the full price point of $199 with the Slim and have a lot of key exclusives releasing next year. There isn't a good chance of a decline at all.
But that's wrong, because if PlayStation released less , they'd see less. No matter how you slice it, people chase games, not brands.
